In Loving Memory of Michael Black
1993 – 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Michael Black, who left this world far too soon on Friday, May 30th, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 32. Born in Portland, Oregon, Michael is remembered by his father, Pete Black, his mother, Linnette Black, his stepmother, Melinda Black, his sister, Ashli Black, and his children, Gabe and Marie.
Michael was a protector in the truest sense - steadfast, strong, and fiercely devoted to those he loved. He gave everything he had to ensure his children's happiness and security. Whether it was through hands-on home renovations or nature-filled adventures, Michael poured his energy into creating a safe, joyful space for his family.
From an early age, Michael felt a strong connection to the outdoors. As a child, he enjoyed fishing along the Columbia River, and that love for nature stayed with him throughout his life. He had a particular fondness for birds and enjoyed singing and playing peek-a-boo regularly with his bird, Pingu. He was also a proud owner of three Great Pyrenees, who were as much a part of his family as anyone else.
He enjoyed photography and capturing the world from his unique perspective. He loved playing his guitar. Music had always been an expressive outlet for Michael and through his musical taste, you can get a piece of what his inner world was like. Michael was very poetic and had a way with words. He often posted his thoughts on the world and his feelings through poems. He enjoyed writing improv songs and playing them for anyone to listen to.
Michael's intellect was exceptional. At the age of four, he built his own computer, a sign of the technical ability that would define much of his career. He designed, manufactured, and created rocket parts for Blue Origin. He was able to watch the launch of one of the rocket ships he worked on. Michael had a true gift for design engineering with a passion for manufacturing prototypes.
All these traits were who Michael Black was, but the most significant one of all was his resilience. He faced and overcame a lot of challenges throughout his life. He continued to push forward, grow, and remain deeply committed to his family. Michael's presence was a gift. He lived with intention, and while his time here was far too short, the impact he made, especially on those closest to him, will not be forgotten. His memory lives on in the stories, the laughter, and the love he shared.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
