Worcester: Michael J. Bradley, 76, passed away Sunday, February 26, at UMass Memorial University Campus after a brief illness, with his family by his side.

His wife of 35 years, Nancy E. (Holmes) Bradley of Worcester predeceased him in 2014.  He leaves behind three children; Eric T. Bradley and his fiancée Katie Cowden of North Oxford, Nicholas C. Bradley of North Oxford, and Chelsea H. Bradley of Worcester, three siblings; Stephen T. Bradley of Auburn, Shelli M. McCarthy of Holden and Edward J. Bradley, III and his wife Renee of Holden, three grandchildren; Lennox M. & Kendrick L. Baygboe and Brayden T. Bradley and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Michael was born in Worcester, son of Edward J. and Norma (Taylor) Bradley, Jr. He graduated from St. Stephen's High School in 1964 and eventually enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966. He was a decorated Vietnam War veteran receiving the Purple Heart and Gallantry Cross in his two tour deployment. After the war, he became a member of the USMC TUN Tavern Association. His tough but compassionate nature led him to a career with the Department of Youth Services. While serving as a director, he was awarded the Manuel Carballo Governor's Award for Excellence in Public Service in 1988 and later retired as Chief Investigator after 32 years of service to the DYS.

He was a lifelong athlete, he officiated local football and baseball games regularly, refereed boxing matches for the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission, and was a baseball coach at St. Peter-Marian High School.  He was a Golden Glove boxing champion at the Ionic Avenue Boys Club in his youth and a longtime member of parks league softball and football teams for Herbie's. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and vacationing at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.

Michael was at his most happy spending time with his grandchildren and family, reminiscing with friends about "The Good Ol' Days", and telling stories about a fish named "Walter", the one that always got away.

All are welcome to celebrate his life at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, on Monday, March 6th from 4:00-7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 7th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
