Memorial service for Scott Burgin, age 63, of Brashear, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs with Reverend Peter McNabb officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Allen Coleman, Michael Emmons, Joe Mack Gober, Marlin Jones, Ron Plaxco, Ralph Pruess, and Roy Pruess. Scott passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital Dallas on Friday, July 19, 2024. His brother Lyle Burgin was at his side.
Michael Scott Burgin was born on October 5, 1960 (same day as his grandfather William Henry Liles), in Odessa, Texas to Bobby Joe and Sidney Anne (Liles) Burgin. Scott attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington. Scott was a big football fan and loved the Texas Longhorns. He was often seen sporting the burnt orange and white team colors.
Scott was a partner in the residential real estate company, Hometown Real Estate. He managed the office and enjoyed working with all his agents and clients. Scott served as the President of the Hopkins County chapter of the Texas Exes. He was active in fundraising and promotion of the chapter. Scott also served on the Hopkins County Appraisal Board. Scott was a member of Troop 69 of the Boy Scouts of America sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of Sulphur Springs. Scott was an Eagle Scout.
Scott is survived by his mother, Sidney Liles Burgin; brother, William Lyle Burgin (Lynn); and daughter, Alyssa Burgin Flatt (Steven).
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Joe Burgin; wife, Kerri Burgin; and grandparents.
