Mike Castellano passed away peacefully and comfortably, surrounded by his loved ones under the care of Serenity Hospice Inpatient services in
Hamilton, New Jersey on the evening of Friday, March 27, 2026.
Born in
Edison, NJ in 1936, Mike spent his early years with his siblings and many friends whom he would, even in his later years, remember fondly for all of the memories they shared. From fishing in lakes and creeks to playing ball, Mike had a way to make everything feel fun.
He married and started a family with his loving wife, Joan, in 1959. They spent many years residing in
East Brunswick, NJ, sharing many late nights with neighbors and their families- laughing while recalling all the great times they had in the neighborhood until the very end. They later moved to
Lakewood, NJ where he served on the neighborhood board for A Country Place Retirement Community. After, Mike and Joan spent some time residing at Silvermead Retirement Community in
Freehold, NJ in the late 2010s to early 2020s, where he was known as a real card shark on Thursday nights and played bocci on the warmer days.
He was a hard worker since his early days. He enlisted in the Army in 1954 and served until being honorably discharged in 1957. After his time in the service, Mike spent, and enjoyed, his time with various companies as a Field Service Technician, which gave him the opportunity to travel the world, visiting many different countries, and eventually retiring from Midland Ross in 1995. After retiring, he enjoyed his years of working at Blue Claws stadium in their ticket window.
Mike was a savvy mechanic and handyman. He was a great cook, known for his "Cowboy Beans," Chicken Rolatini, and of course, the antipasto his grandkids would fight over. He was a true jack-of-all-trades, lit up rooms with his stories and jokes, but above all else, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
His favorite people lovingly called him Bo, Dad, Grandad, and Gi Gi. His legacy will live on through all of them. He is survived by his wife, Joan- his great love and partner of 70 years. He was a proud father of two sons and daughters-in-law- Randy and Mai of San Diego, CA and Todd and Kim, of
Hamilton, NJ. His grandchildren and their spouses were his pride and joy- Jaclyn and Eric, Amanda and Nick, Michael and Kim, Tyler and Amanda, Alex and Brittany, and Leah and Jack. He loved spending his time on the sidelines of his grandchildren's sporting events and was known to badger the referees, even earning himself an award at his grandson's high school sports banquet. He was so proud of his great grandchildren- Sophia, Isabella, Penelope, Gavin, Lily, and Josie.
Mike celebrated his 90th birthday a short time before his passing. He was surrounded by family and loved ones in his last days. They will always remember the stories he told and the love they shared.
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 1:00PM - 4:00PM at 2259 Kuser Road,
Hamilton, NJ.
