Michael Chaplin Obituary

Michael was born January 24, 1950, in Hopkinton, Iowa, to Paul and Donna (Patten) Chaplin. He grew up in Monticello, Iowa, and graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1968. Michael earned three bachelor's degrees, one from the University of Iowa and two from the University of Dubuque. He also earned his MBA from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.
Michael worked as a safety officer at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois for over 40 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved his adventure's with his grandson S.J. He also enjoyed his Friday Apple Pies with Sonny.
Those left to honor his memory include his son David Chaplin of Oxford Junction, Iowa; his daughter Marley (Ryan) Taube of Orion, Illinois; his sister Jan Miller of Cobb, Wisconsin; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Shawn Chaplin; brothers Harry and Tim Chaplin; and his brother-in-law Tom Miller.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating his life will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in the Bistro at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded.
