Michael J. Clifford

Michael Joseph Cliford, 72, of Honesdale, PA passed away peacefully at home April 4, 2025. Born December 22, 1952, he was the son of the late Michael P. and Rose (Kiselevach) Clifford of Avoca, PA. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janice (Wendolowski) Clifford.
In 1974, he graduated from King's College with a dual degree in Accounting and Data Processing.
Upon graduation, he worked for Price Waterhouse Cooper in Columbia, SC. Moving to Blue Cross of South Carolina and later Blue Cross of Delaware, before finding his home at Wayne Memorial in Honesdale, PA. He began his tenure as Business manager, moving to Comptroller and retiring as Chief Financial Officer. As he advanced, so too did the hospital. Just before retiring, he was recognized for his 4 decades of service to the hospital and community.
Mike gave of his time and expertise in service to the community on the following boards:
Wayne Memorial Hospital/Wayne Health Board of Trustees, Wayne County Public Library Board Treasurer, Lions Club Former President and Member, and Honesdale Golf Club Former President and Member.
He enjoyed summers at Wrighter Lake, pizza nights with lake friends, golfing at the club, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mike is also survived by his son Michael Clifford, wife Amanda, grandchildren Cate and Cayla, Hawley, PA; son Peter Clifford, wife Brianna, grandchildren Declan, Cameron and Carter, Waymart, PA; sister Therese (Clifford) Beccone and husband Greg, North Richland Hills, TX; brother Brian Clifford, Avoca; brother in law Gene Wendolowski, Eynon, PA; sister in law Cathy Wendowski, Clarks Summit, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many friends and neighbors who came and spent time with Mike, the doctors, nurses, technicians, and staff who have cared for Mike during the past number of years; and extend heartfelt thanks to their hospice nurse, Kasie.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10 am. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, 4 to 7 at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
