Micheal E. Cooper (75) of Sheffield Texas passed away August 23, 2025 in his home.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday September 13, 2025 at 11 am. Iraan Civic Center 9279 Alley Oop Ln. Iraan Tx. 79744
Mike Cooper was born on October 25, 1949 in Kermit Tx. To the parents of James L. Cooper and Wanda Gayle Fenner Cooper.
The Cooper family lived in Crane Tx. for a while before being transferred to the El Paso Natural Gas Plant (also Known as the Terrell Plant) South of Sheffield Tx. He attended school in Sanderson Tx. until high school, where he transferred to Iraan High School. He played football and was a member for Iraan FFA. He helped build the Ag barns, benches at the golf course, and many other projects in the community. Graduating from Iraan High School class of 1968.
Mike worked for El Paso Natural Gas for 18 years, Marathon Oil Company for 8 years, and DCP Midstream for 12 years before retiring in 2018.
Mike was a volunteer fire fighter for 11 years and served as Fire Chief for the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department and EMS.
Mike worked on many local ranches and loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed fishing, golf, and hunting. Mike was known for his sense of humor that showed up in his cartoons or "scratching's" as he called them. Always showing some humor in daily life, covering everything from fire/EMS calls, ranch working, oil field, and his family. He loved to make art work from scrap metal, leaving behind many custom pieces including BBQ pits shaped like a Cow, Tractor, Pig, and a buzzard statute that currently sits on top of one of the barns, man head named Mario, and a turtle. Another buzzard adorned the top of the El Paso Natural Gas Plant sign at the Terrell plant for many years.
In 2009, Mike and his family begin Chuck Wagon cooking and participating in living history events. Traveling all over Texas and New Mexico, Mike loved to visit and teach the history of the wagon all while drinking and sharing campfire coffee.
Mike was a member of the Son of the Confederate Veterans, Judge Roy Bean Camp in Iraan, Tx.
Mike is survived by his wife of 37 years Sondra Cooper. His four children Clint and his wife Rose Cooper of Knippa Tx. Justin and his wife Caina Cooper of Hutto Tx. Randi and her husband Deaune Whitehead of San Angelo Tx. and James Cooper in the United States Air Force. Grandkids, Allison, Brodie, Cash, Caycee, and Chandler Cooper. Sister Beverly Dokey of San Angelo and brother Gene Evens of Monahans Tx. Along with his adoptive daughter Destiny Hunnewell and granddaughter Oakley Kai Schofield.
He is preceded in death, by his parents James and Wanda Cooper of Hodges Tx.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that a donation is made to the Iraan, SCV Judge Roy Bean Camp.
