Michael Cunningham Obituary
Michael Cunningham, 58, passed away on August 25, 2025 at his home in Jacksonville, NC. Michael "Mike" Edward Cunningham, born on February 8, 1967, in Iowa Falls, IA, passed away peacefully at his home in Jacksonville on August 25, 2025, at the age of 58, surrounded by the love of his family. After a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer, he is now at rest.
Mike was a man of many talents and interests-a true jack-of-all-trades. He spent over a decade managing Leeward Harbor in Morehead City, where he navigated the waters of business with the same skill he brought to his fishing trips. Later, he channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into Target Painting, his very own painting business, where he left his colorful mark on countless homes.
Of the Baptist faith, Mike was a man who knew the value of family, and it was at the core of his being. He was a devoted son who always took care of his parents, and a loving brother to Chris, Chad, and Wyatt. His mother, Sharon L. Cunningham, survives him, along with his brothers and their families, including Chris's wife, Michele. Mike also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He is now reunited with his father in Heaven, Edward P. Cunningham who passed in 2019.
Mike had a knack for bringing joy to those around him with his ever-present smile and hearty laugh that was very distinctive. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and an uncanny ability to find humor in life's challenges. Whether he was remodeling homes or enjoying the great outdoors through fishing with his nieces and nephews with whom he shared a special bond with and camping.
Though he fought hard with cancer, his faith in Christ, nor his jolly and cheerful demeanor ever wavered. He was an all-around good guy, remembered most for his big heart and the love he shared with everyone he met.
As a true family guy, Mike cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, and they were his greatest joy. A Celebration of Life will be held in the near future and details will be announced by the family.
In the meantime, let's remember Mike as he would want us to-with a smile on our faces and laughter in our hearts. Rest easy, Mike; your legacy of love and laughter will live on in all of us.
