Michael John De Luna, Sr. joined his heavenly father on Saturday, March 16th, 2024 at the age of 67 in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born on Monday, July 9th, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas, to parents, Louis Joseph De Luna and Elvira Marie Vigil.
Michael served our country in the United States Marine Corp and after 20 years of Honorable and Faithful Active service, he retired as an E-7 Gunnery Sergeant in 1995. Following a long and successful career in the military, Michael started his second career with the Bexar County Sherriff's Office where he later retired in 2012. In addition to his great contributions to our country and to our city, Michael was a longtime parishioner at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church where he supported the church and further supported his community through work as a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, council #6833 and a Sir Knight in the San Antonio De Padua assembly #1102 (4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly). Michael was a great friend and loved spending time with family.
Michael was a member of the Boy Scouts where he achieved his Eagle Scout. Later Michael would achieve various accommodations and medals while in the United States Marine Corp including the Navy Achievement and Navy Accommodation Medals. He spent several years of his career overseas in Japan and Panama. Michael believed that he needed to show his children the world as much as he could. He loved and adored his grandchildren and was proud of their many accomplishments. His love for his family showed and displayed throughout his life as he believed in tough love but also guidance. Michael helped raise his niece Veronica during her teenage years. In June of this year Michael officiated his granddaughter Seneca's wedding.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Gabriel De Luna; and daughter-in-Law, Diana Elisabeth Kaiser.
He is survived by his sons, Michael De Luna, Jr. (Sarah), Robert De Luna, Jason De Luna, and Brian De Luna; daughters, Elvira De Luna and Mary Ann Lindsay (Eric); 22 grandchildren, Michael, Seneca (Richard), Olivia, Zoe, Travis, Alyssa, Nevaeh, Julianna, Anthony, Cody, Layla, Tyler, Leilani, Isabella Rose, Hunter, Ryan, Tristan, Evan, Erica, Ethan, Liam and Kaitlin; 4 greatgrandchildren, Michael "Mikey", Ara, Meadow, and Octavia; brothers and sisters; and former spouse, Marianita De Luna. My sincere Condolences to the Whole De Luna Family. He was always greeting me with a Huge Hug and smile. There wasn't a function at Little Flower where I always saw him at one of his best - helping his community and Parish. I will miss him and know he's earned his Wings. I will miss him and the Love he shined on us all. - May Perpetual Light Shine upon Michael.
