Michael Jeffery DiGiovanni, 67, of Sulphur, passed away suddenly at his residence. Those who last saw him report that he complained of feeling unwell, but earlier that day he had been to the gym and had participated in volunteer community activities, so his passing was a surprise. He was loved and will be missed by all.

Mike was born July 22, 1957, in New Orleans. His parents were Paul and Theresa DiGiovanni. Mike grew up in Lake Charles for his early life, but the DiGiovanni family moved all around the world over the next two decades. Mike experienced exciting adventures in Taiwan, New Jersey, and Canada. He met his future wife in Calgary and moved back to SWLA in in the mid-80s where he lived the remainder of his life. Mike was a graduate of Ripley Secondary School in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada, and worked at Westlake Polymer as an Instrument Technician and later as an Instrument Technician at Citgo until his retirement.

It provides us with significant comfort that Mike had accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. He was a proud member of Olivet Baptist Church in Sulphur.

Mike loved people and would do anything for his family and friends. His circle of friends was wide and varied. The one thing everyone agrees on about Mike is that he would drop everything to help anyone in need. We've heard so many stories about his works these past days, stories he never told any of us. He never bragged about himself, but we encourage all of you to brag on him now. Please share your stories of Mike and any memories of incredible (or incredibly crazy) things he did.

If you spent more than five minutes with him, you know Mike was a huge sports fan. His first loves were the Saints and LSU. But thanks to his Canadian years, he grew to love hockey equally. Mike loved the outdoors, especially being on the water. He loved fishing even if he didn't get to do it as often as he'd have liked. He loved music and rarely missed a concert featuring a classic artist who visited the area. He especially loved Mardi Gras, and a beloved part of his world was the lifelong friends he made as part of the Krewe of Komova. But the love of his life was his only son, Jeffery. Jeff lived in Canada, but he and Mike would get together as often as they could. Jeff really admired Mike's intelligence and says Mike would always say, “Don’t be as smart as me Jeff, be smarter.”

Mike had an endless, sarcastic sense of humor and lived life to the fullest.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son; Jeffery DiGiovanni, brothers; Guy DiGiovanni, Victor DiGiovanni, and Sean DiGiovanni, and more than a dozen nieces and nephews and their children. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Donna Lancon.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from Noon until 2:00 PM. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be a private family ceremony at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity that is dear to the entire DiGiovanni family, St. Judes.
