Michael H. Downey

Michael H. Downey, 81, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Joann for 45 years, entered into the Lord's Embrace on November 6, 2024. Born on November 22, 1942, in Manchester, Michael attended St. Michael's school, graduated from Hartford High School and attended local colleges. In 1969, he started his own business, Master Antenna Television (MATV), and operated it for over 50 years. He installed thousands of antennas for homes, installed towers, Master Antenna systems for apartments, telephone systems and security systems for countless buildings in CT, MA, and RI. Michael made many happy T.V. viewers. He also built, renovated, and managed several properties which he thoroughly enjoyed. Michael was one of eight siblings. All his life he was so devoted to taking care of his family, his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and especially his wife, Joann. He always loved the holidays and parties to bring everyone together in Glastonbury and Rhode Island.
He is survived by his devoted, loving wife, Joann (Singarella) Downey. His brothers, Joseph Downey, James Downey, John Downey and wife Maria, Walter Downey and wife Colette, and sisters, Margaret Vasseur and Mary Malcolm-Smith, his sister-in-law, Josphine Maulucci and brother-in-law, Sal Singarella. He was lovingly called "Uncle Mikey" by his much-loved nieces, nephews, and God Children to many of whom he was a father figure: Annie, Joe, Jr., Jae, Cathy, Jacky, Michael, Jimmy, Matt, Laurie, Mindy, Missy, John, Jr., Laura, Walter, Jr., Jessica, Natasha, Cathy, Danny, Tina, and Dana. He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, James and Anna (Chryanowski) Downey, sister Theresa Downey, nephew Frank Palanza, niece Diane Downey, sister-in-laws, Margaret Downey and Arlene Singarella, brother-in-law, Dan Maulucci and cousin, Barbara Cyr. Also, Rev. Monsignor John J. Loughlin, PhD, who made a profound impact on Michael's adolescent life. As an altar boy at St, Benedict's Church and St. Michael's Church, he mentored him to lead a life of faith, compassion, generosity and especially love, That was indeed the way Michael lived his life.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the Downey family on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring Michael's life will be held the same afternoon, November 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Michael's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
