Michael Egan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martinez-Morse Funeral Home - Middletown on Apr. 15, 2025.
Michael Edward Egan of Middletown, NY, age 69, died on April 7, 2025. Michael is survived by his mother Edith, his brother Tom, his brother Will, his sister Ruth Anne, his sister-in-law Susan and a large number of friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Michael was born July 10, 1955, in Brooklyn, NY, to William and Edith Egan, where he grew up in a loving home with his siblings. After Michael graduated from High School in Brooklyn, he moved to Haworth, NJ, where he lived, worked and attended Bergen County Community College, graduating with a degree in Horticulture. Michael was passionate about working outdoors, being in nature, planting, growing and nurturing everything from flowers to trees. Michael used this passion in his early career with positions at Eisele's Nursery in Paramus, NJ, and Bergen County Park Commission. Michael traveled with friends across the United States, camping and visiting National Parks where he hiked, camped, bird-watched and enjoyed the great outdoors.
Michael moved to Rutland Vermont, where he lived and worked for 14 years and eventually moved to Middletown, NY, where he purchased a home and worked in multiple local industries. Besides Horticulture, Michael had a large range of skills that enabled him to work and retire early. He particularly enjoyed his roles at Middlecrest Crossing and Crystal Run.
Michael had a life-long love of watching birds, which he practiced his entire life. He vacationed in Cape May, NJ, for many years, spending sun-up to sun-down days in the Cape May Bird Observatory, known as one of the largest in the United States. Mike spent time in London, studying European bird habitats with a local Audubon society. Michael enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing and was a true year-round outdoorsman. Michael loved dogs and was fond of finding strays and bringing them into his life (including his beloved Chrissy, Shamus and Hannah). Mike enjoyed all kinds of music and attended hundreds of concerts in his life, including several emerging artists of the 60s and 70s.
Michael passed away in his home, surrounded by family and will be remembered as a loving brother, a fun uncle, a dedicated son and a strong friend. Michael will be memorialized in a private family ceremony. Donations can be made in his name to the New Jersey Audubon Society (https://njaudubon.org/donate/).
