Michael Anthony Eng passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on June 5, 2025. He was 58 years old. This loss is profoundly felt by those who knew and loved him.
Michael lived most of his life in Texas, but his California roots left their mark on him. You'd hear it sometimes in how he spoke, and certainly in his laid-back attitude. Echoed by many who knew him, Michael never knew a stranger. He offered his generous heart and spirit to everyone he met. His energy was unmatched, and he lit up every space he entered with joyful noise and spine-cracking hugs. We will miss those hugs. He was fiercely proud of his military service in the U.S. Army and wore the label "veteran" as a badge of honor. Michael was a jack of all trades who tackled every project with enthusiasm that only he had, and he always made time to help others. Anyone who knew Michael knew his passion for skateboarding, which he brought with him when he left California for Texas. While attending St. Phillip's College, he got into longboarding and founded SLAB (San Antonio LongBoarders) with friends. He participated in races across Texas and particularly loved racing down legendary Maryhill. Being on his board brought him peace, and he found a home amongst many in the skateboarding community both near and far. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Teresa (Shoog) and the light of his heart, his daughter Lilly. Our hearts ache for their grief at losing their devoted husband and father. He is also survived by his father and stepmother: Kim P. Eng and Nora Shipman; two brothers: David Eng (and Kris) and Matthew Karakas (and Melanie); and sister Kimberly Eng (and her daughter Jackie). He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who all loved their "Uncle Crazy" plus in-laws, cousins, and other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his mother Sarah Brock, and his grandparents Kim Wing Eng and Gracie Eng.
Although we mourn the loss of our Michael, we know that his spirit and energy continue to inspire those he's left behind. He would not want us to get lost in sorrow but should, instead, celebrate a life lived on his terms. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Mission Park South Funeral Chapel with internment at the Mission Park South Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m., with services beginning at 2:00 p.m. After the services, the family invites you to a celebration of Michael's life at the Santo Nino Catholic Church Hall, 5655 Rigsby Avenue, 78222.

Teresa and Lilly. Our condolences. We lost a very important person in our neighborhood circle. Michael was the go to guy that knew how to do just about everything. And, he was always willing to lend a helping hand and always with a smile. We are with heavy hearts right now but I know we will always keep Michael as part of our circle in memory. Never hesitate to reach out, at any time, we are here. Your neighbors, Tim and Shirley
