Michael James Fenderbosch, known as "Big Bosch" to his family, left our world Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 at age 71. Mike grew up in Gallipolis, OH, and was a basketball player for Ohio State University while obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism. Soon after college, Mike met his wife Trish at the "Grande Café", a Tavern he owned, along with his brother Gary, in their hometown. In September of this year, Mike and Trish were blessed to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.
Although basketball was his true passion, Mike had an insatiable love for all sports. To his credit, his 3 sons were amazing basketball players, primarily because Mike helped develop their skills and spent countless hours on and off the court with them. He never missed a single game! As a dedicated and loving father, he taught and encouraged his boys to always work hard and strive to achieve excellence.
Mike and his family spent many years in Gallipolis before moving to Surfside Beach, SC in 1998 where they continued to raise their 3 sons. His love and work for the Construction industry was evident, but perhaps his proudest achievement was being an extraordinary father and an amazing "Big Bosch" to his seven grandchildren. A lifelong devoted Catholic, he and Trish greatly valued their faith and instilled its importance in each of their boys and families. The close-knit bond and love they shared is unsurpassed. Mike's legacy lives on through the love and memories created with his family and friends and is a testament to the remarkable man he was! They will forever treasure the football Sunday family gatherings when Big Bosch dominated the grill and pizza oven.
He could often be found at his favorite sports bar, Dagwoods, rooting for his Gamecock team along with his buddies. He was known as the "Governor" in their favorite corner, an endearing term the guys deemed him. Mike always had a friendly smile, was well-versed in any topic of conversation, and was full of wit and humor. He was just that special kind of guy! Although Mike's journey came to a premature end, the love, laughter, and kindness he brought to this world will forever linger in our hearts.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Joe, and sister-in-law, Sherrie. He is survived by his wife, Trish, his three sons, Ian (Bethany) of Myrtle Beach, Andrew (Jordan) of Myrtle Beach, Kurt (Anmol) Springfield, VA and his seven grandchildren: Madyson, Sophia, Emma, Hudson, August, Maggie and Amaya, along with his sister Kasey (Bill) Bradley of Memphis and brother Gary Fenderbosch, Gallipolis. Brothers-in-law Herb Stanley (Rebecca) Huntington, WV, and John Richards (Kathy) Columbus, Oh, Sister-in-law, Anna Stanley, Charleston, SC, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, Oct.6th at 2:00 in Garden City, SC, and a celebration of life will follow at Dagwoods Sports Bar in Surfside. In lieu of flowers, any donations would be appreciated to Free Ministry 2975 Church Rd, Green Sea, SC 29545
