Michael (Mike) Fitzsimmons was born on August 29, 1944, in San Diego, California, to John Emerson Fitzsimmons and Donna Jean Carroll. In 1955, his family settled in Garden Grove, California, which would remain his home for the rest of his life.
Mike married the love of his life, Sherry, on August 20, 1966. Their marriage of 59 years was filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Together they raised their daughter, Heather Weingardt, and welcomed son-in-law David Weingardt into the family. Mike was a proud grandfather to Piper Weingardt-Bitsko and her husband, Joseph Bitsko, as well as to Dylan Weingardt, who brought him endless joy.
While working full time, Mike earned his Bachelor's degree in Business from California State University, Fullerton-a testament to his dedication and work ethic. He enjoyed a long and successful career as a salesman, earning the affectionate nickname "Motorola Mike" during his time with Motorola before later retiring from Frito-Lay.
A proud Irish Catholic, Mike was a devoted Notre Dame football fan. Saturdays in the fall were often spent watching the Fighting Irish with Sherry and his sister, Kathleen, a tradition filled with passion and camaraderie.
Mike was known for his warmth and his gift for conversation-he never met a stranger. His genuine interest in people and his ability to connect with anyone made him a friend to all who crossed his path. Above all else, he cherished his family, especially Sherry, whom he adored every day of their life together.
Michael Fitzsimmons passed away on July 31, 2025, in Laguna Hills, California. His legacy is one of love, kindness, and connection, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
