Michael Montgomery Glenn, 73, of Bogart, passed away February 20, 2025.

Born April 25, 1951, in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of John Glenn and Bea Montgomery. At the age of three his family moved to Decatur, Georgia where he spent his childhood. He attended Druid Hills High School then furthered his studies at the University of Georgia where he earned a Masters of Science in Horticulture. In 1985 he co-founded Select Trees Enterprises with a vision to “tree the world”! His business was more than a career, it was a lifelong passion enriched by the incredible people he met along the way.

Outside of his profession, he supported various local charities including the Salvation Army and Boys and Girls Club of Athens. He loved supporting the Dawgs, working in his extensive garden, practicing yoga, listening to classical music, making improvements to his world famous Gumbo recipe, and above all else, spending time with his five grandchildren.

An avid fisherman, he fished waters from Alaska to New Zealand. His favorite fishing spot in the world was the inner coastal waterways around the Golden Isles. He passed away doing what he loved - catching fish off the waters of the Hampton River.

Adored by his family. Loved by his friends. Feared by fish.

Survivors include his children, Jack Glenn (Brett) of Athens, Will Glenn (Natalie) of Watkinsville, Kelley Jones (Rence) of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Grandchildren, Grady, Abigail, Walker, Grace, and Clay and a host of other relatives, friends, lifelong fishing buddies, and the Select Trees family.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kay - Katherine Kelley Glenn , parents John Glenn and Bea Montgomery and sister Sarah Glenn.

Mike’s legacy lives on in parks, along streets on campuses and in cities across the U.S. that will grow for hundreds of years. He was a man of intense passion, remarkable kindness and great generosity.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM at The University of Georgia Chapel (North Campus).  Memorial gifts may be directed to the Boys & Girls Club of Athens.
