Michael Guida Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson Funeral Home on Apr. 10, 2024.
Michael J.A. Guida, of New Britain, husband of Judy (Kohanski) Guida, passed away peacefully Monday, April 8th, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. Besides his wife Judy of over 50 years, he leaves a son, Jonathan (Jon) Guida and his wife Kristen of Southington, their children, Derek, Jared, Kyleigh & Owen; two daughters, Michele Kushman and her husband Todd, also of Southington, their children Trevor & Jack; and Ashley Davis and her husband Jonathan (Jon) of Berlin, & their children Tyler, Grace & Hunter; a brother, Alexander Guida III of New Hampshire; two sisters, Lorraine Zydanowicz of Newington and Francis Guida of Plymouth, MA; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Guida of Bristol; many nieces and nephews, as well as two very special friends Jim Scalise and Ed Murtha. Besides his parents, Alexander Guida, Jr. and Lottie (Bish) Guida, he was predeceased by a brother, Bernard "Bernie" Guida.
A native, and lifelong New Britain resident, Mike was a 1966 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He graduated from Sacred Heart University, in 1970, with a Bachelor's degree and dual major in Business Administration and Accounting. Mike worked in the family business, Guida's Dairy, from 1960 until 2006 when he became President and CEO of the company. He continued to own and operate the company until his retirement in 2012. Mike was a former President of the N.B. Kiwanis. He was also a member of the New England Dairy Farmers Association, Board of Trustees of The Big E; was on the Board of the New Britain Boys & Girls Club, The Hospital for Special Care and the BIAC (Brain Injury Association of CT). He was also a coach for the New Britain P.A.L Raiders & chain gang for NBHS Football & was a member of the New Britain Friends of Football Booster Club.
While he had so many accomplishments his true happiness came from spending time with family and friends. That time was spent enjoying annual multi-generational hunting outings, and summers at 'Camp Fun' as a watersports instructor or fishing guide in New Hampshire. He had a love-hate relationship with the golf course and always enjoyed watching the Red Sox and UCONN basketball games. Most of all, he loved watching his 9 grandchildren enjoying their activities - football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, wrestling, gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, flying & building.
Calling hours are Sunday April 14th, from 3-7pm at Carlson Funeral Home Funeral, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday April 15th at 10:30am at St. Maurice Church at 100 Wightman Rd, New Britain (Please go directly to the church). Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BIAC (Brain Injury Association of CT) or Project Purple www.projectpurple.org a non-profit organization empowering the fight against pancreatic cancer.

Michael and my husband Gregory Kowalczyk were best friends since high school, that friendship continued until Greg passed on 4/9/2016. They had each other´s backs through good and bad times. They are continuing their friendship from above and are both free of pain, watching down on the rest of us. Sorry for your loss Judy and family.

Hello Guida family,
We are very sorry for your loss. Mr. Micheal Guida was a very good friend of my dads, Edward Todzia. My dad worked for Guida's dairy as a mechanic for a long time. We rode the train at Lake Compounce with Micheal Guida and had several terrific family picnics.
We send our condolences at this solemn time.
