Michael Hafke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 7, 2026.
Michael Walter Hafke, 58, passed away peacefully at his home in Nevada on January 20, 2026. He most recently resided in Mesquite, Nevada, and High Bridge, New Jersey.

Michael was born on September 28, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York, to Alvena Irene Dively and Walter Julius Hafke, both of whom preceded him in death. From an early age, Michael was driven, hardworking, and determined - traits that would define his life and legacy.

Michael proudly served his community and his country for decades. He dedicated 26 years to the Clinton Township Police Department, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. In parallel, he served 26 years in the United States Army, Reserves, and National Guard, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) and deploying to Iraq from 2004–2005. His commitment to service, leadership, and duty was unwavering, and he took great pride in the life he built through discipline and perseverance. True to his goals, Michael retired early at the age of 46-a milestone he worked tirelessly to achieve.

Above all else, Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife and caretaker, Irene Vibeke Hafke, and his children: Erik Michael Hafke, Kirsten Alexandria Hafke, and Michael Christian Hafke. He was a proud grandfather to Maya Cadence Hafke and Anika Jade Hafke, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia Miller, brother Robert Hafke, and sister Christine Hafke.

Michael lived life with energy, humor, and heart. He had many passions-weightlifting, working out, metal detecting, and especially dirt bike riding. During his working years, he willingly set aside riding dirt bikes to prioritize his family. Once his children were grown and he entered retirement, that passion came roaring back. Watching Michael ride again, you'd swear he was a teenager-happy, fearless, and completely in his element.

Known for his humor and storytelling, Michael never met a stranger. Whether talking with a close friend or someone he just met, he had a way of making people feel like they'd known him forever. His stories-often told with perfect timing and a mischievous grin-were legendary and almost always ended in laughter. His faith, strength, and zest for life left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Though Michael's life was cut far too short, there is no doubt he lived it fully, purposefully, and on his own terms. His legacy of service, love, laughter, and faith will continue through the many lives he touched.

Service details and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, with services anticipated in Clinton, New Jersey. Michael will be laid to rest at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, Pennsylvania.
