Michael Harcarik, 73, of Laceyville, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, Aug. 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Somerville, N.J., on Sept. 21, 1949, he is the son of the late Andrew R. (d. 1958) and Helen Kozic Harcarik (d. 2000).
After graduating from Bridgewater-Raritan High School West in 1967 and completing two years at Devry Tech in Union, N.J., Michael would join the United States Air Force where he served from 1968-72. He spent much of his time in the Air Force serving in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, stationed in places such as Thailand, South Korea, and Okinawa.
Michael was a lifetime member of the Martinsville, NJ VFW #6588 and the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion in Black Walnut. He was also a valued member of the Rought Hall Post #510 Legion Riders, serving as Road Captain and Vice President during his time with them.
Michael enjoyed motorcycles, music, and the company of friends. He had a small collection of guitars that he would play regularly. He also taught himself to play the keyboard. Michael loved to travel and enjoyed seeing America from the seat of his motorcycle, either alone or with friends. His adventures would take him to places such as Colorado to see his sister, and most a recent trip to the west coast.
He is survived by his wife, Susan E. Prentice of Laceyville; his sons: Andrew and Michael Harcarik of Raritan, N.J.; his daughter, Kimberly Harcarik (Robert Kozic) of Bangor; his sister, Carole Clark of Pueblo, Colo.; his nephew, Jonathan Clark of Nampa, Ind.; and many cousins and friends.
Besides his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his brother, John Harcarik (d. 1958).
A memorial service for Michael will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main Street, Laceyville, on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Harold Schorr of the Center Moreland United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m., until the time of service. A Military Honors Service will follow the Memorial Service at the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion in Black Walnut, at 3 p.m. A private burial will take place on a later date at the convenience of the family.

To all of Mike's loved ones my deepest sorrow and sympathy. I was a close childhood friend when Mike and his family lived in Martinsville, NJ. Growing up together, we had many fun adventures and many good times together especially when we were teenagers with another good friend Charley Haniman in 66' - 67'. In our 20's I was best man at both of their weddings.
In our late 20's we lost touch when Mike left Martinsville unannounced. I didn't know where he went. I sadly regret not reuniting with him over the years, always thinking there will be time in the future but, we don't realize how quickly time passes. When distances between us are great and our busy lives take over its easy to get out of touch with our old friends. We just keep assuming they're doing O.K.
From the obituary, it seems Mike made a good life for himself and his loved ones in Laceyville, PA. For that, I am so happy for him. Sadly, like many of our High School classmates, he was too young to go now. It's important that we remember the good times we had with the dearly departed and keep them in our hearts.
God bless Michael and his family.
Sincerely, Richard T. Riehl and family
