Michael (Mike) Hazzard, a delightful 63-year-old of Chanhassen, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and child on August 24, 2023 during a family nap. He is one of the only people that would participate in a million-dollar hole-in-one competition during his final chemo treatment. He was very optimistic about his cancer diagnosis and was privileged enough to have five beautiful months embracing the things, places, and people he loved.
Mike loved his family, golf, horse racing, poker, pizza, and good buffalo wings. He was a dedicated son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to all of those who were lucky enough to know him. He would do anything for a loved one, and always went the extra mile with his only child, Serena.
Mike graduated from Minnetonka High School in 1978 and played on the Minnetonka Millers baseball team for a number of years post-graduation with many friends he knew from childhood. He graduated with a degree in computer science from the University of Minnesota Duluth where he also played baseball. He met his wife Lisa while working together at Olson Graphics nearly 40 years ago, and they celebrated 34 years of marriage this past June. He worked at Entrust DataCard for over 25 years as a software engineer where he met many friends and fellow golfers.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, James Hazzard. Survived by his mother, Grace Hazzard; wife, Lisa Hazzard; child, Serena; brother, Phil Hazzard; brother and sister-in-law, John and Jennifer Hazzard with niece and nephew Claudia and Henry; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Jill McDade; niece, Mazie and Justin Gengler; great-nephew Adrian; nephew, John McDade; and great-niece, Phoebe. Also survived are many other close cousins, family, lifelong friends, goddaughters, and coworkers who he loved and will miss.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 31, at 11 AM, at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel. Visitation one-hour prior. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream on the service will be available on Washburn-McReavy's website.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Tee Minnesota and/or the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. https://firstteeminnesota.org/donate/ and https://pdjf.org/donate/
Thank you to the team at the Mayo Clinic and St. Mary's Hospital, specifically to nurses Anna, Susie, and Peyton on 4D for caring for Mike with such dignity and compassion during his final days.
