Michael Lynn Hobbs ("Mike"), 69, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025. Born on August 21, 1955, Mike grew up in Louisville and graduated from Valley High School in 1974.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, John R. Hobbs, and his brother, Jerry Hobbs. He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Janet Hobbs, who was the love of his life; his son Jason Hobbs (Laura); his stepdaughter Stephanie Miller (Kenny); his cherished grandchildren Seth, Garrett, Gage, Avery, and Addison; and his great-grandchild, River. He is also survived by his beloved babies, Sadie and Callie; his loving mother, Elizabeth Hobbs; his brother Marvin Hobbs (Cindy); and his five sisters.
Mike's heart extended beyond his immediate family to include his "second family," his cherished fishing crew and Illinois crew, as well as his lifelong best friend, Dean Mulhall.
An avid fisherman, passionate patriot, and the hardest worker you could ever meet, Mike dedicated his life to his family, his community, and his trade. As the owner of John R. Hobbs & Sons Concrete Construction, he transformed his father's small business into one of Louisville's most successful companies. He was more than a boss-he was a mentor, a role model, and an inspiration to those who worked alongside him, including his son, nephews, and three grandchildren.
Mike was also known for his extraordinary generosity and heroism. In April 1967, he saved someone from drowning, an act of bravery honored in the local newspaper and recognized with a prestigious award from the mayor. Later in life, he became widely respected for his role in producing a life-changing medication known as "God's Cure for Cancer," saving countless lives through his work.
Above all, Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who devoted his life to his family. Janet was his greatest love and unwavering partner, and their bond was unmatched. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he treasured every moment with them, whether hunting, fishing, or simply spending time together.
Mike's legacy of love, generosity, and hard work will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Thursday January 30 from 12p to 8p and Friday January 31 from 10a to 12p service to follow at 12p at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Highway. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society, a reflection of Mike's giving spirit and dedication to helping others.
"His was a life of profound love, unshakable purpose, and extraordinary generosity. He will be deeply missed."
