Michael Shane Hodgeman, age 54, of Clayton, Delaware, tragically passed away at his home on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Michael was born June 14, 1970, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Michael William Hodgeman of Smyrna, Delaware and Toni Lynette Reece of Clayton, Delaware.
Mike graduated from Smyrna High School, class of 1989 and was a self-employed Flooring Installer for over 35 Years. He was a brother, a father, friend, uncle, cousin and Pop Pop favorite to his two grandchildren. Mike was a Smyrna super fan and loved to show his support for the community any time he could. He coached Smyrna Little Wrestlers, Smyrna-Clayton Little Lass and Smyrna-Clayton Little League. Mike was an avid fisherman and loved fishing in the local ponds and streams. He loved being from Smyrna. He was always known to be the life of any party and was a great dancer. He would never shy away from a karaoke mic. He also loved being a part of our local parades. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting antiques and other various treasures. He would spend hours researching and repairing them. Michael always had a little treasure for everyone. He loved history and had a knack for knowledge. He loved the holidays and being close together. He always planned the best camping trips. Mike was a comedian to all those who knew him. He had a way of making anyone laugh even if they didn't want to. He had an open mind and heart. He loved everyone but most of all he loved his family and was always their protector. He was an amazing father who gave his children his big heart to love unconditionally to forgive and to be strong. Mike was a beautiful man who passed down genetics his family is so proud of. Michael was a huge pillar to his family structure always. He will continue to protect and send his love to those close to him.
He is preceded in death by his step brother Dean Reece, his chosen brother Tim Conlon and Tim's wife Nancy Conlon.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, Emily, Michael, Dean, and Kaylee Hodgeman, their spouses Melissa and Dylan and his two grandchildren Braxton and Isla Snow. His 7 sisters, Tracey Hodgeman, Natalie Arnold (Eric), Toni Knopf (Sol), Gina Jarvis (Pete), Danielle Peas Hill (Brian), Jamie Collins, and Kristine Keeler, his brother Jonathan Hodgeman (Jamie), and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved always like they were his own.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 10 AM to 1 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
