Michael Horvath Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Justen Funeral Home & Crematory - McHenry on Jan. 12, 2026.
Michael Stephen Horvath, aged 70, passed away on December 23, 2025, in McHenry, IL, just one day after celebrating his birthday. Born in Chicago, IL, on December 22, 1955, to Michael and Agnes Horvath, who preceded him in death, Michael lived a life marked by love, generosity, and an unwavering passion for his interests.
Michael's legacy of kindness and selflessness is carried on by his beloved fiancée, Cyndi, whom he adoringly referred to as his angel. Their love story began in May of 2017, and for over eight and a half years, they shared a happiness that was evident to all who knew them. He also leaves behind his cherished stepchildren, Jacob, Christine, and Jack, who will forever remember his guiding presence.
Michael's memory will be treasured by his devoted siblings, Rose, Roberta, Matthew, and Joseph. His nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Adam (Jessica), Auggie, Kyle, Amanda (Kevin), and Amilea, as well as his great-nieces and nephews, Lily, Zoey, Matthew, Thayer, Gracelyn, and Lennon, will miss his playful spirit and the wisdom he imparted. His Aunt Cecile, along with his cousins from the Josza, Saindon, Schmuttenmaer, and Schaer families, also mourn the loss of a man who was very much the heart of their extended family.
Michael's love for his family was paralleled only by his passion for his beloved Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. His loyalty to his teams was as steadfast as his love for his dogs, who were his constant companions and brought immense joy to his life.
Michael started his restaurant career at Marc's Big Boy in Palatine in the early 1970's where he met many of his friends (that he still is friends with) and led to his 20+ year career as a Manager at the Walker Brothers Original Pancake House.
Known for his remarkable intellect and love for trivia, Michael was a regular at local trivia nights, attending three times a week to challenge his vast knowledge. His sharp wit and wealth of information made him a formidable opponent and a sought-after team member.
Michael was the embodiment of a helping hand and a listening ear. To those who knew him, he was the one you could always count on for support, advice, or a hearty laugh. His heart of gold shone brightly, making him a beloved figure in his community and beyond.
Those who met Michael were touched by his loving nature and his selfless dedication to others. He was described as passionate in all his endeavors, a trait that endeared him to many and ensured that his impact would be lasting.
As we bid farewell to Michael Stephen Horvath, we celebrate a life lived with boundless love and an enduring zest for life. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the profound influence he had on the lives he touched. Though he has left this world, the warmth of his presence will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Justen Funeral Home, 3700 W. Charles Miller Road, McHenry, IL from 4-7 pm.

I remember Mike fondly, from our days at John Hersey High School. Always a good word from Mike, who was friendly to all. Great smile. Great person. He will be missed.
