Michael Hubbard Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of (Retired) SFC Michael Alan Hubbard, Sr., on August 9, 2025. Known to most as "Mike," he was born on April 20, 1948, in Ironton, Ohio, to Cora (Boykin) and John Hubbard, and raised in Dayton, Ohio.

A decorated U.S. Army veteran, Mike joined the Army in December 1966 and served honorably for 20 years in high-level communications operations. His distinguished service earned him the Army Commendation Medal three times, the Vietnam Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. His awards also included the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, awarded six times for exemplary service.

While stationed in South Korea, Mike met the love of his life, Suk. They were married on April 15, 1971, and recently celebrated 54 years together, raising three children along the way.

In 1981, Mike became a member of Kadesia Temple No. 135, Shriners Hospital, and Mountain Post Military Lodge No. 26, Masons. He founded a youth drill team and drum line, leading them to parades and competitions across the state and beyond. Through his mentorship, the youth engaged in fundraising and community service-collecting recyclables, working concessions at Air Force Academy football games, hosting fish fries, and more-efforts that continue today through these organizations. Mike was dedicated to helping those less fortunate and teaching those more fortunate to give back.

Mike also furthered his technical career, earning an A.A.S. in Computer Information Technology from Pikes Peak College, certifications in data processing and programming, and becoming a Microsoft Certified Network and Systems Administrator. After retiring from the Army, he worked in satellite communications as a government contractor before accepting a position as an adjunct professor of computer networking at Southern Ohio College, while also serving as MIS Director for a behavioral health center in Cincinnati. He volunteered his time teaching adults and seniors computer technician skills at the Emmanuel Community Center in Cincinnati, OH.

After "retiring" again, Mike returned to Colorado, earning his CDL and driving across the country, often taking his grandchildren along. He volunteered as a transportation ministry driver for New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, traveling nationwide, and was an active member of the church's media ministry. Known as the man who could fix a computer, build a website, repair a car, cater a meal, or find the right person to help, Mike was always ready to serve.

Mike could always be found supporting his grandchildren at school and sporting events. As a devoted Granddad, he supported not only his own but every child around him-offering encouragement, advice, food, laughter, and love. The family he built was also the community he served.

Mike reunites in glory with his parents, John and Cora; his brother, Robert; and sister, Ella. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Suk (Colorado Springs, CO); children Michelle Hubbard (Colorado Springs, CO), Monica Hubbard (Las Vegas, NV), and Michael Hubbard Jr. (Chicago, IL); and grandchildren Dr. Mische Hubbard (Albuquerque, NM), John Hubbard-Johnson (Colorado Springs, CO), Monet Hubbard (Frederick, MD), and Mekhi Hubbard (Colorado Springs, CO); great-grandchildren Luna and Jericho Johnson (Colorado Springs, CO); and many more family members and cherished friends who became family by love.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his name.
