Michael Rusty Johnson passed away peacefully in his home with his wife and daughter by his side.
Interment will be held at South Park Cemetery/General McBride Veterans Cemetery with full Military Honors. Date to be later determined.
Rusty was born on September 13th, 1951, in Roswell NM to Elizabeth and Orland Johnson. He was the 5th child of 10 children.
Rusty attended Mt. View Elementary and Roswell High School.
After marrying his wife Elaine and following the birth of his 1st child, Rusty enlisted in the ARMY. Then proceeded to serve a tour in Vietnam.
Rusty earned his Aircraft Crew Chief Wings, Sharpshooter, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign, Air Medal (with device), Aircraft Crewman's Badge and Army Commendation Medal.
Rusty found his true love, best friend, and companion in his wife Elaine. They enjoyed over 5 decades together.
Rusty was a much beloved husband, brother, father, Papa, and Great Papa. He was a wonderful carpenter and craftsman. He enjoyed working with his hands and creating toys, puzzles, furniture, and of course homes for friends and family.
Rusty will truly be missed by many family and friends.
Those left to cherish and treasure memories of Rusty are: His wife Elaine Johnson, Daughter: Laura (Skeeter) Hailer and husband Bill Hailer. Son: R. Spike Johnson
Grandchildren: Sky Hailer, Seth Hailer and his wife Alicia, Breanna Smith, Ally and Abby Johnson with their mother Nok.
Great Grandchildren: Gage Hailer, Gracie Hailer-Blair, Jonah Smith, Parker Hailer and Tori Hailer
Siblings: Dennis Johnson and wife Patty, Peggy Seskey, Sister-In-Law Sharon Johnson, Terry Johnson and wife Anita, Rocky Johnson and wife Pam, Randy Johnson and wife Cynthia, Candy Beeman and husband Ike and many loving nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in Death by Parents Elizabeth and O.R. Johnson, Brothers Richard and Dusty Johnson. Sister Becky Johnson Lee and Brother- in-law Joe Seskey.
Niece and nephews: Ray Johnson, Tammy Johnson, Robert Lee III and Kyle Stokes.
