Michael D. Kane, 62, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at his home.
He was born March 26, 1962 in Reading and formerly lived in Exeter Township, Berks County.
He is survived by his wife, Tobi (Casner) Kane, two sons, Nathan Kane of Paris, France, Alexandar Kane of London, England, a stepson, William Gilson (Bonita) of Mifflintown, two grandchildren, Lexie and Lindsea Gilson, and six siblings, Theresa Kane, Mary Essig (Mike), Patrick Kane (Judi), Kevin Kane (Kate), Rose Cooley (John), and Robert Kane (Amy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Joseph and Carolyn Ann (Dengler) Kane and one brother, Christopher Kane.
A graduate of Central Catholic High School in Reading, Mike had an incredible engineering mind and was knowledgeable in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and electronics. Family and friends could always rely on Mike to cheerfully and willingly lend a helping hand. He had a big heart and was never too busy to assist anyone who needed his talents. His curiosity and love of technology led him to dismantle "things" just to see how they worked. While tinkering in his shop, Mike would often put down the tools and pick up a microphone and could be heard by the neighborhood singing at the top of his lungs doing Karaoke.
He moved to Mifflintown and loved the area and its people. Mike loved to talk to anyone about anything. He thoroughly enjoyed life and loved meeting new people, listening to their stories. He could talk to a stranger for hours. To Mike, a stranger was a friend not yet met. He loved riding his Harley with his wife and they enjoyed traveling to new places and experiencing new adventures. They spent much time in OCNJ at the beach house, enjoying beach life, riding bikes and playing cards.
Mike loved spending time with his boys who both live abroad. It was a real treat when both boys were home and he cherished their times together. Mike always eagerly anticipated their long-distance video chats. His two dogs, Harley and Yuko were always by his side or riding with him in his truck.
One of his greatest pleasures was being a member of the Coffee Club and sharing stories with "the guys" several times each week. He enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's sporting events and musical performances. Countless hours were spent boating with friends, relaxing in all the special coves at Raystown Lake. "Brothers nights out" with his siblings were the best. He hosted the greatest Super Bowl parties with his state-of-the-art giant projection screens. He was fun loving and the life of the party, instigating jokes and pranks on unsuspecting friends and family.
Earlier in life, Mike worked with his brother, Chris, at American Audio as an audio/video high end specialist and worked at Stereo Barn. He opened his own business, Cellular Connection in Lancaster where he was an entrepreneur in the car cell phone business at the dawning of that technology. Mike then worked for Berkshire Systems, Inc. in Reading for thirty-five years as a project manager from where he recently retired. Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at noon at Harshbarger's (new event venue), 716 Swamp Road, Mifflintown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a contribution in Mike's name to Juniata County Meals on Wheels, PO Box 251, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third Street, Mifflintown is assisting the family with the cremation arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.gussfh.com.

Tobi and family - I'm very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I always enjoyed working with you, Tobi, and I got to know Mike later through work as well - we all benefitted from his immense talent and expertise. My best to you at this difficult time!

The time we ducked out of American Audio working a long day - I used to work for Chris & Mike part time. I rode on the back of his Honda 760 bike as he got it going 150 MPH to grab a pizza; we were very hungry! And I didn't drop it on the way back to the shop.
