Michael Kloster Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brookside Funeral Home and Crematory (Yakima) - Moxee on Jan. 17, 2023.
Mike Kloster kicked the bucket on Friday the 13th of January, surrounded by his loving and slightly twisted family after spending 83 days on what he identified as his "all-inclusive vacation" in the University of Washington cardiac intensive care unit.
The self-proclaimed "luckiest man alive" was born May 10th, 1950 into the Kloster family. He accomplished the trifecta: attending and being dismissed from three area high schools for fighting, which he said he "really enjoyed." Ultimately, at 21, he graduated from Davis High School. Becoming an IBEW union electrician was one of his proudest accomplishments. He retired as a state electrical inspector. Legend has it, he once held a state record for writing red tags.
He and his wife Patricia Lea were married in 1975. They have three children: Matthew, Lisa (Taylor), and his favorite child, Paul (Angie).
Dad told us he lived the childhood he never had through us. Together we learned to ski, golf, camp, Black Friday shop, and skip church to watch the Seahawks. His annual holiday extravaganza began with giant Halloween inflatables in October, lights and decorations going up in November, and his carport Christmas party in December. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling to football games, watching his grandchildren grow up, morning coffee with his crew, and sitting on the driveway with a radio playing, welcoming visits from anyone who might stop by.
Diamond Mike was built to be shared and thrived on social connection. He was the definition of effervescence, that smile inviting, the booming voice and boisterous laugh palpable. The man never met a stranger. He was undeniably, one of one.
He is survived by his family and grandchildren, Pierson, Bella, Jagger, and Paityn.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Mike's final wish was, "When you think of me, think of the happy times, and buy yourself some stupid sh*t."
