Bristol – Michael L. Koelsch, age 79, died peacefully at home, while surrounded by his loving family, on November 7, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Anna (Szczepanski) Koelsch; daughter, Kim (Henry) Malarkey; son, Matthew (Erin) Koelsch; four beautiful grandchildren that lit up his life, Henry, Ryan, Ollie and Evan; six siblings, Nick Koelsch, Rita (Don) Kincaid, Patricia (Chuck) Schmitt, Daniel (Connie) Koelsch, Timothy (Anna) Koelsch and Kevin (Barbara) Koelsch; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Koelsch; and two sisters-in-law, Sandra and Carolyn Koelsch.
Michael was born and raised in Toledo, OH and was the son of Leroy and Velma (Lammers) Koelsch. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Toledo and moved to Rochester in 1969 to work at Eastman Kodak Co. His career as a mechanical engineer spanned almost 30 years and led to numerous patents relating to packaging equipment.
His creative nature led to designing and building his dream custom log home overlooking the Bristol hills, a labor of love he shared with Anna. Michaels other major endeavor in recent years was designing and building a stunning addition to their Canadian cottage. His many unique accomplishments will live on for years to come.
Michael was always up for an adventure and enjoyed skiing, hunting, kayaking, hiking, biking and traveling. His quick sense of humor was always a source of laughter. Spending time with family and friends was a priority. When he couldn't be there in person, he took great pleasure challenging brothers and grandsons to a game of on-line chess.
Michael will be fondly remembered for his willingness to step in and help friends with his building and hunting knowledge, the majority of which was self-taught. His legacy of work, learning and lending a hand, will live on in the many lives he touched. Michael will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to Band of Parents, 2248 Broadway #1009, New York, NY 10024 or World Central Kitchen, PO Box 96538, Washington, DC 20090-6538 or Doctors Without Borders, 40 Rector Street, 16th floor, New York, NY 10006. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
