Michael Kohler Obituary

Michael Lee Kohler, 62, of Niles, Michigan, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 26, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with illness.

Born on March 24, 1963, in Vicksburg, Michigan, Mike graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1981 and went on to pursue his passion for cooking, earning a degree in Culinary Arts.

In his younger years, Mike embraced adventure and the beauty of the outdoors.

As a youth, he was very involved with the Boy Scouts, where he continued to serve in leadership roles as a young adult.

Mike especially loved skiing and spent time working at Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado, where he combined his love for the mountains with his skills as a chef.

Mike later built a long and dedicated career in the airline industry where he was known for his reliability, loyalty, and teamwork. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with friends and traveling.

Mike was active in his church where he was embraced by a community that shared his faith and values. You could often find him using his cooking skills there.

A passionate sports fan, Mike was an ardent supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Above all, Mike's heart belonged to his family. He was deeply committed to helping and supporting those he loved.

Mike is survived by his mother, Melva Kohler; sisters, Janet (Greg) Bierlein and Ruth (Dee) Kelly; brother, Jim Kohler; nephews, Matt (Lidia) Kohler, Chris Bierlein, Andrew (Allison) Bierlein, Joel Bierlein, Robert Kelly; and nieces Kimberly Stillman and Katie (Clayton) Mumy. Each of them carries forward his legacy of family, devotion and faith.

Mike lived his life with a sense of inquiry and laughter. His favorite scripture, John 3:16, was a source of comfort and inspiration throughout his journey.

Whether preparing a meal, carving down a snowy slope, or simply engaging with others, Mike touched the lives of all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to New Journey United Methodist Church, honoring Mike's enduring commitment to God, faith and service.

A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 2:00pm at New Journey United Methodist Church, 302 Cedar St. Niles, MI 49120.

Though we grieve his passing, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and take comfort in knowing that Michael now rests in perfect peace, healed and whole in the presence of God.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
