Michael Kurt Bookman

Michael Kurt Bookman was born on October 28, 1946, to Sidney and Isabel Bookman in Youngstown, Ohio. He moved with his parents to Miami, Florida when he was four years old. After graduating from high school, Michael attended the University of Miami where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance. Soon realizing that working in an accounting office wasn't a good match, he became a teacher and received a Master's Degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University. He then began working at the Special Action Office for Drug Abuse Prevention. He went on to study at the University of Florida where he received a Specialist's and PhD in Educational Finance. After receiving his Doctorate, he served as the Personnel Director for Chatham County School System in Savannah, Georgia for 10 years. He was the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance in the School System of Hillsborough County, Florida, where he also served as the school system's Lobbyist in Tallahassee. After retirement in 2005, he enjoyed daily breakfast trips to Café Caribe, where he spent the morning chatting with his friends about the Stock Market and Sports. While at home, he enjoyed playing Pop Slots on his phone, and watching TV, but most of all spoiling his dog, Wagz E Bear. Michael is survived by his wife Joan (Roberson), Bookman, his children, Joseph Branton and his wife Deanna, Brad Bookman-Schader, and Kelly Tarantino and her husband Stephen. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Stephanie, Cassandra, and Kierra Branton, and two great-grandchildren, Javon Branton and Jayleigh Hall. Funeral services will be held on March 6, 2025, at 12:00 PM CT Grave side at Chipola Cemetery in Altha, FL. The family will receive friends after the grave side at United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Altha FL. Arrangements are under the direction of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.
