Michael Alan Lanteigne, of Shirley, passed away after a brief illness at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester on June 29, 2024.

Michael, whose friends and family called him Mike, was a lifelong resident of Shirley, Massachusetts and graduated from Leominster High School in 1971, where he studied auto body. Mike was an avid classic car enthusiast and one of his biggest passions was restoring classic cars, including his 1966 Plymouth Barracuda and his 1936 Plymouth Coupe. He enjoyed attending car shows and would even take a semi-annual trip down to Hershey, Pennsylvania to attend one of the largest car shows and flea markets in the country. Mike enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite places to go was to New Brunswick, Canada to visit family in Grande-Anse and Caraquet where his father was born. He and his wife enjoyed taking trips up north to Maine including Bar Harbor and Boothbay where they enjoyed visiting the beaches and eating one of Mike’s favorite things, lobster. He had many fond memories with his sons when they were young on family camping trips to Lake Dennison.

Mike started off his employment journey at George Frost in Shirley where he worked as a sewing machine mechanic. He then worked in the maintenance department at both Nashoba Valley Medical center and Lura A. White Elementary School. He ended his career working for the Shirley Department of Public Works where he retired in 2015 after close to 20 years. During his retirement he enjoyed working on his car, metal detecting, fixing things around the house, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and spending as much quality time with his grandchildren as he could. He was also known to sit back and sip on a cold, diet A&W root beer while watching his favorite shows on YouTube and following the activity in town on the scanner. Mike and his wife enjoyed dining out and trying different restaurants. For close to 20 years, they had weekly, Friday night dinners with close friends where the couples would swap off choosing where to eat. Mike will be remembered for his selflessness, generosity and sense of humor. Whether it was calling to check in on a friend or lending a helping hand to someone in a time of need, Mike was always there even if it was just to lighten up the mood with a joke or two.

Mike is predeceased by his parents, Joseph (Bebe) and Deneige (Dennie) Lanteigne, his eldest sister Gail Clara, his brothers-in-law James (Jim) Wark and Brian English, and sister-in-law Jeanne Lanteigne. Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen (English) Lanteigne, son Michael of Shirley, son Matthew and his wife Anna of Townsend, older siblings Joseph G. Lanteigne of St. Petersburg Florida, Sharon A. Wark of Lufkin, Texas, and Carlton D. Lanteigne and his wife, Barbara, of Bedford, New Hampshire, as well as his brother-in-law, Bruce English of Shirley. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Tessa-Marie, Colson, Grayson, Tucker and Hudson along with many loved nieces and nephews. Michael’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the amazing staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center and to Mike’s cardiologist Dr. Jefferey Rade and his team for their care.
