Michael Liedkie Obituary

MICHAEL MERLE “MIKE” LIEDKIE
February 25, 1939 ˜ June 9, 2023

Michael Merle “Mike” Liedkie was born in Orofino Idaho on Feb. 25, 1939, to William Frederick Liedkie and Wilma Mary Liedkie. He passed away on June 9, 2023 in Vancouver, WA. In his immediate family he is preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Larry Liedkie. He is survived by his younger sister, Carol Bertholf.

The family moved to Malden, WA, where Mike spent most of his childhood, attending school in nearby Rosalia, WA. He was active in sports and was selected for the all-state football team.

Mike joined the Coast Guard and during that period accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and met his wife, Della Dorine Perez. They were married on May 21, 1960.

Convinced that he was called to be a minister, Mike attended and graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, OR, while working full-time and raising a growing brood.

Following graduation he moved back to Rosalia, WA, with Della and their four children. He began a Baptist church that met initially in the Odd Fellows Lodge while he worked full-time.

He ministered in Rosalia for about 10 years and saw the congregation grow and move into a newly constructed church building. The family grew as well, as two more children were added while in Rosalia.

After leaving Rosalia he devoted some effort to writing, eventually publishing a book on Jonah. He worked a number of jobs including filling in for a few weeks at The Green Mountain Church, where a few weeks turned into several years. Della and him were blessed with one more child while living in the Vancouver, WA, area.

He is preceded in death by his son, Rick; and survived by his wife and remaining seven children, Ron (Joanie), Randy (Bettie Mae), Jill (Roland), Jenny (Matteo), Rod, and Ryan (Eden). He is survived by 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Mike was a wonderful minister at Green Mountain - I was privileged to have him lead weekly Bible studies in my home in Woodland, Wa.

I remember Mike from the Two Rivers Writers Association in the late 1990s. We had our meetings at the Camas Public Library before it was remodeled. He always gave great feedback. He was such a nice person. I'm glad to have known if those few years I was there.
