Michael John Lomax

Michael “Mike” John Lomax, 67, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on July 9, 2024, in his home.

The family will receive guests on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2 pm to 3 pm, at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 2 pm, at Trinity Fellowship Church, 5000 Hollywood Road, in the West Auditorium with Pastors Dwight Kirksey of Celebration Family Church and Kyle Wilkinson of Trinity Fellowship presiding. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 Interstate 27, with Pastor Lyndal Waldrip of MORE Church presiding.

Mike was born on March 22, 1957, in Madison, Wisconsin to George William and Marilyn Grace (Edwards) Lomax. He graduated high school in Janesville, Wisconsin and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where he received a degree in accounting. He relocated to Amarillo, Texas in 1982 and began working at Wilson, Haag and CO. as a tax manager. He retired in May of 2024, after more than 40 years with the company as a Partner. He volunteered for the Junior Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of Family Support Services, and was involved with the Harley Party and Mardi Gras Fundraisers.

Mike loved his sports, primarily the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Chicago Cubs. He was very knowledgeable about all sports, and was even featured on a radio talk show that prognosticated professional games.

All of this failed in comparison to Mike’s greatest passion, his family. On May 27, 1987, at Polk Street Methodist Church of Amarillo, Texas, Mike made the greatest commitment of his life when he married Teresa Marie Lucas and began his family. Together they welcomed their daughter Michelle Leigh Lomax into the world a few short years later. Michelle was the delight of Mike’s heart. He always held Teresa and Michelle in the highest regards. Mike was an incredibly involved and dedicated father. They were members of Trinity Fellowship Church for many years. Together, Mike and Teresa began a feeding ministry, primarily focusing on persons living in the streets or abandoned buildings, a ministry that lasted seven years.

Mike was a kind, patient, and gentle man. His great sense of humor caused people to gravitate to him. He loved to make people smile with his wit. Following retirement, Mike and Teresa loved to hit the road on one of their many adventures seeking out vineyards and historic dance halls, as well as populating their personal wine cabinet from the Texas Hill Country.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Teresa Lomax, his beloved daughter Michelle Lomax, brother Bryan Lomax and wife Carla, two nieces, two nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a monetary donation be made to the Salvation Army or Faith City Mission, two charities Mike cared very deeply about, at the links below in honor of Michael J. Lomax.
