Michael Rodriguez Luna, 63, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, in San Antonio, TX, the city of his birth. He was born on December 10, 1961, in San Antonio to his beloved parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sonia, and his children: Michael C. Luna and his wife, Dennise Luna, along with their two children, Liam and Charlotte; and Jacqueline Hinojosa, and husband Doug and 2 children.
Michael was a proud graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. He dedicated 22 years of service to the United States Air Force, where he served as an Air Traffic Controller and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant (E7). A true Cold Warrior, Michael was known for his commitment to duty, his dedication to his country, and the lifelong friendships he forged during his time in service.
Outside of his military career, Michael was passionate about many things. He loved golfing with his friends, traveling with his wife, Sonia, and indulging his interests in photography, history, movies, and 80s rock music. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed spending time with his family dog, Skye. Michael had a remarkable ability to maintain conversations for hours, whether sharing memories, discussing history, or simply enjoying the company of friends and family.
Michael was a devout Catholic and a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a kind, caring, and loyal father, grandfather, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family fondly remembers his happy memories, and Liam, his grandson, cherished the time they spent together. Michael's warmth and sense of humor made him a beloved figure, especially to those who had the privilege of spending time with him.
A visitation, rosary, and funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Castillo Funeral Home (520 N General McMullen Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228). The schedule for the day is as follows:
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Rosary Service: 5:00 p.m.
Funeral Service: 6:00 p.m.
On Friday, February 21, 2025, Michael will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with a graveside service at 9:15 a.m. The procession will depart from Castillo Funeral Home at 8:00 a.m.
Following the burial, a brunch reception will be held at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate Michael's life and share memories with his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation Inc. or plants for Sonia's backyard, which Michael cherished.
He will be remembered as a passionate photographer, a true gentleman, a loyal friend, and a dedicated family man who loved deeply and lived fully. May his memory live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
