Michael Lynskey of Somerset, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 15 2025. He was 86 years old. He died peacefully while in the loving company of his wife, children and grandchildren. Born in Newark, NJ to Wallace and Veronica Lynskey, Mike attended Our Lady of All Souls Grammar School in East Orange and graduated from St Benedict's Preparatory School in 1956. After graduation he furthered his education by putting himself through Seton Hall University, receiving his BA in 1961.
Early in his career Mike was employed by J.J. Newberry and Colgate-Palmolive, but spent most of his career with KPMG. He was promoted to Director of Pensions and Benefits in 1985 and retired from KPMG in 1998.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife Judy Lynskey nee Shanahan; his son Michael W. Lynskey and his wife Christine of Cranford, NJ, daughter Loretta M. Jefferis and her husband David of Cheshire, CT, daughter Susan V. Lynskey of Elizabeth NJ, son Matthew M. Lynskey and his wife Elizabeth of Cranford, NJ, and his stepchildren, Robert Branagan of Somerset, NJ and Kathleen Walker and her husband Neil of Westfield NJ; Mike was a proud grandparent to his ten grandchildren Kevin, Matthew and Kelley Jefferis, Owen, Patrick and Neill Lynskey, Katie and Ciara Lynskey and Riley and Delia Walker. In 2023, Mike was thrilled to welcome his first great-grandchild Kane Jefferis. Mike is also survived by his sister Jane A. McCoy and her husband Glenn of Ocala, FL. Mike is pre-deceased by his parents Wallace and Veronica Lynskey, his brother John A. Lynskey, his much-loved granddaughter Maeve L. Lynskey, and his beloved first wife Loretta A. Lynskey nee Halpin.
Mike was very proud of his family which included two loving marriages, and he took great pleasure in watching his children and their families grow up over the years. Mike was an avid reader and recommender of books in every genre. He enjoyed nothing more than reading a good book while sipping a single malt whisky while a football game played out on the TV. Mike lived in New Providence, NJ for many years and while living there was an active member of the New Providence Rescue Squad. He received his EMT accreditation in 1975 and eventually served as their President in 1978. After moving to Somerset, NJ in 2003, Mike became active in the running of the Somerset Run Condominium Association, serving in various roles including Treasurer and President. In 2017 he was named Somerset Run's Person of the Year.
Visitation at the Bradley, Brough & Dangler Funeral Home, 299 Morris Avenue,
Summit, NJ on Friday January 24 from 10AM – 1:00PM. Interment at St. Teresa Cemetery,
Summit, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to The Sepsis Alliance and
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
