It is with the deepest sorrow that our hearts can bear, we announce the passing of Michael T. Magstadt on July 14, 2025. Known by so many as Mike, but to his mother, always Michael. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Family will greet guests one hour prior.
Burial will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, Mandan.
Michael was born on March 3, 1992, the son of Donald and Mary (Wallum) Magstadt in Bismarck. He was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from Century High School with the Class of 2010.
He was a much-loved son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend. Everyone knew when Michael entered a room. He would greet you with the biggest smile, hello, and his charismatic personality. When he laughed, it was hard not to join in. Michael loved sports of all kinds, and during his growing years, played football and basketball. He was fortunate enough to have his dad coach him in both sports, something he valued deeply.
As Michael grew older, he became very inquisitive about the world, exploring his individuality and surroundings at great depths. In doing so, he developed a strong connection to nature. Michael lived in Colorado with his brother, Chris, for a time and fell in love with the mountains, camping, hiking, and exploring new places. Colorado was a place he hoped to return to someday. Michael had a big heart for his family and friends. As a youngster, he spent the majority of his time camping, fishing, and enjoying water activities. He also spent time at family gatherings with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. With his friends, he spent time biking, kayaking, and longboarding with them, and enjoyed spending time at their lake cabins. You could also find him enjoying his weekends on the Missouri River. He had a soft spot and special connection with animals, especially the family dogs, Mag and Champ, and cat, Kitty, who brought him much joy. Michael had a strong bond with his nephew, Cullen, who called him Uncle Maki. They spent many hours throwing the football, practicing hockey trick shots, and battling it out at the air hockey table. Michael also valued his solitude, playing video games, listening to music of all genres, and watching television.
Michael is survived by his mother, Mary; brothers, Christopher (Vanessa) and Donnie (Barbi); nephews, Cullen and Sawyer; niece, Sunny; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; grandparents, Reuben and Viola Magstadt and Donald and Mary Wallum; and uncle, Monte Preabt.
We are so very fortunate that God gave us Michael. He meant so much and was deeply loved by all who had the pleasure to meet him.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to donate, a GoFundMe was established with the proceeds being donated to the North Dakota Suicide Prevention Coalition.
