Michael E. Mandelstein, age 68, of New Vienna, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro. He was born March 10, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Paul Edward and Virginia Lee "Jenny" (Burnett) Mandelstein. He faithfully attended the New Vienna Community Church, where he volunteered his time and skills to help in any way. Michael was a person that could do anything, he was a "Jack of all Trades" and was a master at most of them. His passion was being a woodworker. He loved refinishing furniture and bringing it back to life. He was a long-time volunteer with the local Habitat for Humanity, and eventually became an employee. He had also worked locally at A.B.X., Ameristop, Lowe's, and most recently cleaned carpets, both residential and commercial. He loved to read and was interested in both model trains and studying full size trains. He spent a great deal of time studying history, focusing mainly on the W.W.II era. Michael is survived by his wife, Maria Ann (Waggoner) Mandelstein, to whom he married December 8, 2001 in New Vienna; son, Paul E. (Amanda) Mandelstein and their children, Blake, Katrina, Makayla, Parker, Kendall, and Makinley Mandelstein, all of Clarksville; son Jarrod (Heather) Mandelstein and their children, Nathaniel and Wesley Moore, and Preston and Josie Mandelstein, all of Blanchester; son Joseph E. (Ana) Mandelstein of Texas; brother Mitchell (Carol) Mandelstein of Florida; sister Carman A. (Dale F.) Sparks of New Vienna, their daughter Melinda (Ryan) Vinup and their children Maddie and Makenna Vinup all of Sabina; sister Rachael (Wayne) Renfro and their daughter Rachael Renfro all of Alabama; sister-in-law Ginger Mandelstein of South Lebanon; and many friends and acquaintances he has made over the years. In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by one brother, Mark Mandelstein; and stepfather Walter C. Pursley and his wife Vera Pursley. Memorial services celebrating Michaels's life will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home, Wilmington. Dan Mayo, Pastor of the New Vienna Community Church, will officiate. Calling hours will be held Thursday, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. October 3, 2024

Mike was our neighbor in Wilmington for over 15 years. He was always there if we needed a handyman or dog sitter or someone to watch our house while we were on vacation. More than that he and Maria were great friends of ours. We had many meals together and watched Bengals games. Mike was a big Steelers fan so you can imagine! Such fun!
When we found out David had early onset dementia and decided to move to Kentucky to be near his family, Mike was a rock and helped us move. It was a huge undertaking and without him and Maria I don´t know how we would have made it. Mike, we love you and will miss you. Rest in the Presence of the Lord, dear friend. Until we meet again.
