Michael Odell Maness, a dedicated individual known for his work ethic and creative spirit, passed away on June 29, 2024, in Fayetteville, Georgia, at the age of 78. He was born on June 12, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Throughout his career, Michael served as an Operations Manager for Eastern Airlines. Beyond his professional endeavors, he found great joy in cooking and was particularly talented in the kitchen. His creativity shone through in his landscaping projects, showcasing his passion for beautifying spaces.
A devout member of Flat Creek Baptist Church and the Gideons, Michael's faith was an integral part of his life. Mr. Maness generously shared his culinary gifts by cooking for Wednesday night services for over a decade, serving over 100 people heartfelt meals prepared from scratch.
Michael is preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie Maness and Jerry Maness, as well as his parents, Herman Odell Maness and Opal Lee Martin Maness. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Betsy Maness, his children Laura Hunt (Bruce) and Michael Shane Maness, granddaughter Katie Boles and husband John, and great-grandchildren Justus Boles and Maverick Boles. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol Whidden and husband Ed, and Glenda Knake and husband Henry.
A memorial service to honor Michael's life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11 o'clock at Flat Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. Josh Saefkow presiding over the ceremony. One hour prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the church.
Michael Odell Maness will be fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication to his work, his culinary talents, and his commitment to serving his community and church family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and creativity that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
