Niskayuna- Michael M. Martinelli, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, departed this world on December 2, 2024, at the age of 56. Born on October 19, 1968, in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of Gino and Judith (nee: Varrone) Martinelli.
A graduate of Linton High School's Class of 1987, Mike furthered his education at SUNY Delhi, where he earned an associate's degree. His professional journey was marked by dedication and skill; he worked for Sheltertherm Builders for some time before joining the Naval Nuclear Laboratory at the Kesselring Site as the Lead Carpenter, a position he held with distinction for 18 years. Mike was a top master carpenter. His career in carpentry led him to excel and become a well respected master craftsman. Mikes' craftsmanship and attention to detail turned many houses into beautiful loving homes.
Mike's passions were as diverse as they were engaging. He was an avid motorcyclist, taking great pride in his custom Harley Davidson. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed hunting, skiing, bicycling, kayaking, and target shooting. His adventurous spirit led him to travel the world, skiing some of the most challenging and beautiful ski slopes. Mike's sense of humor was infectious, making everyone around him laugh with his quick wit.
A true gentleman, Mike was known for his respectful nature and his unwavering kindness. His love for carpentry was not just a profession but a calling. He rebuilt his own house, pouring his heart and soul into every nail and board. He lent his expertise to many others, helping to make their visions of home a reality; leaving his fingerprint of love and dedication in every home. For Mike, family was paramount, he was the go-to person for anyone in need, always ready to lend a hand.
Those who knew Mike will remember him for his kind demeanor and mentorship, his funny and lighthearted approach to life, and his adventurous spirit that inspired others to live fully. His love for flamingos was more than a quirky interest; it was a symbol of his unique and colorful personality that brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his beloved parents, Mike was a cherished brother to David Martinelli (Michele) and Gina Martinelli-Painter (Brian Painter). He was an adored Uncle to Dominic Martinelli, Giuliana Painter-Rings (Michael), Angelo Martinelli, Gino Martinelli, his niece and Goddaughter Julie Martinelli, Nicholas Painter and Great-Niece Elinor Jean Rings. He was also a dear cousin to Carol Ann Martinelli-Sharma and a treasured friend to Clem Gazzillo. Mike was preceded in death by his uncle, Richard Martinelli.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 9 am till 12pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, 812 Union St, Schenectady, NY 12308. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following at 12pm. Internment will take place in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.

I'll always remember Mike yelling my name at the top of his lungs across the site we worked at whenever he caught sight of me. Sometimes for no other reason than to wave hello. I don't know why we developed this way of greeting one another, but it always made me smile. His cheerfulness was contagious and I always left our conversations with biggest smile on my face. I will miss hearing his voice and seeing him at work.

My favorite piece of advice I got from Mike when I was stressed about my first big house project:
"Nothing to stress about just taking your time and care about what you're doing."

His words have helped me get through many home projects and tough moments when things felt overwhelming. What's important is caring about what you do and he definitely lived his life that way.

You were such a great friend to me. I will miss your smiling face! I enjoyed motorcycling ,kayaking and all our talks with you, and joking around. I would.tell you to rest in peace, but I know your peace would be with Jesus, the other great carpenter, building something amazing!. You cant even sit still in heaven!!But most of all everyone needs to know you touched so many lives, here at work. In our building and all over the site! I love you my special friend,I will never forget you. I will see you up there, I ll be the one in the pink forktruck that says," forever" on it, instead of "whatever". Lol.. love Debbie M

I met Mike in 2012 working with him at the Kesselring site. My light was off in my office and waited months for someone to come. I remember telling Mike when chatting with him over coffee. Within 30 minutes Mike took care of it. That was who Mike was......THE BEST. We lost the best of the best. There won't be another one. Heaven is very fortunate. God bless you Mike.
