Michael Robert Mathers

Michael Robert Mathers, 49, passed away on Tuesday, March 5th, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on Saturday, August 9th, 1975, to Judith Mathers and Bradley Mathers in Maryville, Missouri.
Michael was a gifted musician. During his middle and high school career, he became a talented singer, trumpet player, and bass guitarist. In high school, he was active in all areas of music, including Concert Band, Chamber Choir, Show Choir and musicals. Mike also sang in the South Dakota All State Chorus for four years, and the South Dakota Honor Choir for 2 years. He graduated in 1993 from Milbank High in Milbank, South Dakota.
Michael studied vocal and instrumental music education at Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota, and later went on to study vocal music at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, singing in top choirs at both institutions.
Changing direction from music, Michael then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to study culinary arts, working at restaurants like Red Lobster and Rumors East. Up until his death, he served as the executive chef of the Meatballs Italian Grill in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald and Clarine Severtson (Watertown, South Dakota) and Doyle and Bonnie Mathers (Maryville, Missouri).
He is survived by his son, Anthony Mathers and Anthony's mother, Gynni Redmond; his mother, Judith Mathers; his father, Bradley (Annette) Mathers; sister, Rebecca (Eric) Snider; brother, Clay (Shelby) Mathers; niece, Samantha; nephews, Nathaniel, Kaden, and Rayden; other family and close friends also survive.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet. Address: 2229 N Mt. Juliet Rd, Mt. Juliet TN.
