Michael James McConville

Michael James McConville was born on May 5th, 1970 in Clinton, Oklahoma. He passed away on July 14th, 2025 after a courageous battle with early on-set Alzheimer’s. He was 55.

Upon graduation from Southeast High School, Mike headed to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Education and later, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University. While his intention was to eventually move into an administrative role, he could never step away from his love for teaching, spending the majority of his career at Southmoore High School. Along with teaching, Mike also served as Southmoore’s head boys golf coach from 2008 to 2021. He also proudly served as a sponsor for the Youth and Government club for many years.

Mike had a love for all sports, but golf was his greatest passion — one he shared with his dad from a young age. A naturally talented player, he found joy in the game both on and off the course, whether coaching, playing, or watching a Sunday round. He was also a die-hard fan of the OU Sooners, the Thunder, and especially the Boston Red Sox.

But more than anything, Mike’s truest love was the life he built with Traci. Through every chapter—college, careers, raising two kids, and eventually becoming “MyMy and Grandaddy” to their long awaited granddaughter - they were each other’s constant. Their marriage was built on friendship, mutual respect, and unwavering devotion and their love was quiet, steady, and true — a beautiful example to all who knew them.

He was a gentle soul, known for his easygoing nature, quiet strength, and boundless patience. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his kindness, wisdom, and love will continue to guide us always.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Edward McConville and Lois Kathleen McConville, along with sisters Barbara Kay Clemons, Glenda Jordan Johnson, and Stacey Lynn Johnson.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 31 years, Traci, and their children, Kylie Linstead and Carson McConville; son-in-law Grant Linstead; beloved granddaughter Sloane Linstead; brother Davey Johnson; and sisters Kim Simon and Tammy Stewart. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cherished cousins, and dear friends—as well as the countless students and colleagues whose lives he touched through his work, mentorship, and friendship.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire team at OU Edmond Medical Center, with special thanks to Dr. Loper and the compassionate staff of OU Autumn Life. They are especially grateful to nurse Tonya, Miss Becky, and Dr. Mobley for the extraordinary care, kindness, and dedication shown to Mike in his final days. In addition, the family will always be thankful to Dr. Smaranda Galis and Dr. Calin Prodan for walking alongside Mike with tenderness and providing their expertise throughout his entire journey.

Visitation will be welcome to all on July 30th from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel. A wake will be held at Smith & Kernke N. May Chapel on July 31st at 6:30 p.m., located at 14624 North May Ave., OKC, OK 73134. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on August 1st at Our Lady of Perepetual Help Cathedral, located at 3214 N. Lake Ave., OKC, OK 73118.

Mike made the selfless and meaningful decision to donate his brain to science to support research into Alzheimer’s disease. With the support of Brain Support Network, the family was connected to the Mayo Clinic, where his brain donation will contribute to vital research and the advancement of medical understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The family is deeply grateful to both organizations for their compassion and commitment to finding answers.
