Michael Shaheen Atyia was born on September 18, 1962, to Freid and Sandra Kaye Atyia of Seminole, Oklahoma. The town where he spent his childhood would one day become the place where he built a life and raised a family—a community he cherished deeply. He was proud of his Choctaw and Lebanese heritage, which remained an important part of his life and shaped the way he connected with others. Though his work took him across the country and included several years as a resident of Oklahoma City, it was Seminole that ultimately called him home once more.
After a first date on June 14, 1997, followed by an engagement just weeks later, Mike and Sandra Kay Atyia entered a covenant marriage on August 30, 1997. On that day, Mike also embraced the role of dad to Kyle and Johnnie— a responsibility he accepted wholeheartedly and without hesitation. With integrity and quiet strength, he led Sandra and the boys, striving always to be a steady presence and guiding hand. His unwavering commitment to character and integrity laid a firm foundation in their home—one that took root in the hearts of his sons and continues to flourish within their own families.
Mike was no stranger to hard work. He deeply valued the opportunity to work and exemplified this through his dedication and tireless effort to provide for his family. Over the course of his long career, he demonstrated what it meant to be hardworking and dependable.
Mike spent many years in the roofing industry, a path that took him across the country. Along the way, he developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of the landscape and a genuine affection for the people he met. His natural ability to connect with others served him well as he transitioned into sales—a field in which he truly thrived.
Mike became a top-performing salesman across multiple industries, earning the respect and admiration of both colleagues and clients. Through the years, many customers became close friends—relationships he continued to cherish and maintain throughout his life. One of the proudest achievements of his career was founding his own business, FHI Supply, Inc., a small supply company built on his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
While Mike found great success in his career, he understood that life was about more than the jobs he held. He brought the same dedication and heart to his personal relationships, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, and genuine connection.
Affectionately known as Toad, Jumby and Pop Pop, Mike Atyia lived and loved life to the fullest. He found joy not only in his own interests but especially in the moments he shared with those he loved most. Mike first spent time at Lake Keystone as a child, but as he grew older, Lake Hamilton became a special place for him. He cherished time there with his family—first as a young man, and later as a husband, dad, and Pop Pop.
Mike was a lifelong Sooner football fan, lit up at any conversation or memory involving his mom, and always enjoyed a good meal at a great restaurant. He cherished memories shared with friends, found a quiet joy in talking with Hammett in the shop, treasured Sunday School at the farm with Earl, riding the tractor with Sandra—or with a grandchild eager to join in, and He enjoyed feeding the cows—whether by himself or with a few helping hands along for the ride.
Mike loved watching and playing sports, sharing his passion for geography, exchanging texts with friends, and fishing. He also took great pride in creating and enjoying a beautifully manicured lawn. His Beefmaster cattle brought immeasurable joy even when the going got tough with Scar Creek Beefmasters. Sandra and his sons, daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren brought endless amounts of delight to his heart. These simple yet meaningful pleasures were among his favorites, woven throughout a life filled with love, laughter, and genuine connection.
Above all, Mike’s deep love for his family and his faith were the heart of Mike Atyia. As a fifteen-year-old, Mike trusted Jesus Christ at Falls Creek youth camp. And as a demonstration of his newfound faith, Mike was baptized and began building a life and legacy based solely on Biblical truth.
And because of his faith, he was given a living hope that became sight on May 30, 2025, when Michael Shaheen Atyia entered Heaven and became face-to-face with His living Savior after a 4+ year battle with cancer.
Left to treasure his legacy and carry it on are his adoring wife Sandra of the home; his sons, Kyle Atyia and his wife Erica, of Seminole, Oklahoma, Johnnie Atyia and his wife Alison, of Gunter, Texas; his six grandchildren (who proudly call him Pop Pop) Cooper and Arabelle Atyia, Michael, Maximus, Merritt and Mollie Atyia; his dad Freid Atyia of Seminole, Oklahoma; his mother-in-law Kay Scarberry-Wilbourn and her husband Gene, of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; his brother Hammett Atyia and his wife, Pam, of Seminole, Oklahoma, sisters Tracy Atyia of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Tandi Thomas and her husband, Jay, of Edmond, Oklahoma; his sister-in-law Cherry Howard and her husband Terry, of Seminole, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was welcomed into Heaven by his mom and his father-in-law, John Scarberry.
The family would like to share their deep gratitude to Dr. Randy Kemp, whose steady care and kindness brought comfort and reassurance over these past few years. A heartfelt thank-you as well to Nurse Pam, whose gentle presence and compassionate support mean more than words can express.
