Michael Roger Monroe

Michael Roger Monroe, of Lansing, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer. Born in Lansing on May 2, 1948, Mike was a devoted family man, a hardworking professional, and a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures.
A career truck driver, Mike retired from Penske after years of dedication on the road. Outside of work, he had a passion for the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, always cheering for his favorite drivers.
Mike had a deep love for cars. In the 1990s, he rebuilt an 1964 Oldsmobile 442 convertible, which he proudly entered into numerous car shows, including the Mason Superfest, where he won an award for his craftsmanship and dedication. His love for classic cars was evident to all who knew him.
Together with his wife, Karol, Mike spent 27 years as a foster parent, providing love and care to over 70 children, many with medical needs. He and Karol adopted three children, further expanding their family with unconditional love.
Mike is survived by his sons Mattheu (Julie) Monroe, Chris Monroe, and Patrick Monroe; his granddaughters Kourtney Monroe and Annabelle Williams; his mother, Betty; his siblings Penny Monroe, Gayle (Tony) Guillen, Rosemary Felgenhauer, Marilyn (Jim) Ryder, and Bill (Vicky) Monroe, sister-in-law Karen Cramer, brother-in-law Danny (Judy) Carpenter, his friend, Susan Wells and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elson "Skeeter"; his brothers Wayne, Art, and Bob; his brothers-in-law Mike Barry, David Cramer and Mike Felgenhauer; and his sons Mark and Mickey.

Mike will be remembered for his generosity, his passion for life, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and adventure will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held Friday, March 21, 11:00 a.m., at the Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
