Michael Morgan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home - Selbyville on Jan. 5, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael Morgan on December 27, 2025. A dedicated educator, historian, and prolific writer who spent his life bringing the stories of the past to life, Michael was born March 2, 1943 in Baltimore Maryland.
Michael's journey began as a student in the halls of Mt St Joseph high school, where he would later inspire thousands as a teacher at Mt St Joe. He dedicated over 30 years to classroom education, serving as a history teacher and Department Head until his "retirement" at the age of 54. While he excelled at teaching high-level AP classes, he was most proud of being a foundational architect for an initiative for at-risk students.
For nearly 20 years, Michael balanced his time in the classroom with his role as a part-time ranger at Fort McHenry. His impact there remains monumental as after the 1976 Bicentennial, he was a founder of the living history program for the Fort McHenry Guard, ensuring that the "Star-Spangled" legacy was not just read about, but experienced.
Upon "retiring" to Central Florida, Michael's passion for education found a new home at The Disney Institute. Working with the Y.E.S. (Youth Education Series) program, for nearly 20 years he designed and conducted immersive educational experiences across the Disney parks, teaching both adults and students that the world is the ultimate classroom.
Michael lived by the mantra, "a writer writes." For nearly 60 years, he put pen to paper (or fingers to keys) almost daily, continuing his craft until the very week of his passing. From The Wave and Delaware Coast Press to the Beachcomber and Daily Times and countless other newspapers and magazines on Delmarva, his Delaware Diary and other weekly columns were complimented on the airwaves on WGMD 92.7, where his "Lore of Delmarva" recordings shared the local tales he loved so dearly. His prolific career included tens of thousands of articles and over a dozen books.
Beyond the written word, Michael was a storyteller who frequently gave in-person talks for the Lewes Historical Society and other organizations, bringing his books to life for live audiences. In 2021, his lifelong commitment was formally honored when he was inducted into the Delaware Maritime Hall of Fame.
Behind every word Michael wrote was his greatest partner and love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Madelyn. She was his first and most important reader, having edited every single writing he ever produced. While some married couples fight over money or vacations, their arguments were often around sentence structure, comma placement, and verbs.
When he wasn't immersed in prior centuries, Michael was a passionate supporter of his hometown teams. He remained a loyal fan of the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, and held a lifelong torch for the Baltimore Colts.
He is survived by his wife Madelyn Morgan, son Tom (Karla) Morgan, sister Roberta Morgan, sister-in-law Suzanne Pecci, and nephew Daniel (Carolyn) Pecci. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Roberta (Imhoff) Morgan, brother John (& Shirley) Morgan, and sister Jean Morgan.

Mike and I attended St William of York elementary school. Ironic that my memory of him is the day the nun told him to stop gesticulating as he spoke. She made him hold his hands behind his back. He could not speak!!! He could only stammer. What a change. Cornelius ( Neal) Carmody class of 61

So sorry about the loss of your wonderful partner and friend in life. Mary Agnes and I to came to MSJ in 1977 and were embraced and welcomed by a group of amazing dedicated people.

Mike was my first fantastic role model in education as Department Head. His smile, enthusiasm, and assistance in storytelling in the Resource Center and the classroom evaluations led me to solid foundations as a teacher. Mike was wonderful to be around.

Recently retired with 48 years of experience, I cherished Mike and will miss his eternal optimism

I was privileged to have Mr. Morgan as a teacher and later as a colleague when I was a young teacher at the Mount. I will never forget his hilarious and informative Maryland history class. My condolences to Mrs. Morgan and the rest of the family. He truly was an inspiring teacher and person.

One of my favorite teachers. We shared a love of history. I still use his lessons about writing every day. He left the world a better place through all his work.

Saddened to hear of Mr Morgan´s passing. A passionate teacher and mentor to many that walked the halls of MSJ. I know in some way I am a better person because of the Morgan duo. Prayers and wishes for comfort and peace to Mrs Morgan and family. May his memory be an eternal blessing.

So sorry, Madelyn, to hear of Mike´s passing. He was first team all-star as a teacher at the Mount. Multi talented, always kept his cool, a great resource to younger teachers. Bernie McDivitt.
