Michael Murphy Obituary

Michael J. Murphy, affectionately known as "Murph," was born on January 27, 1973, in Rhinelander and passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his life, his wife Tanya. His journey through life was characterized by unwavering dedication to his family and an illustrious career with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department that spanned an impressive 25 years. Michael's deep commitment, integrity, and courage set him apart, and he etched his legacy in the hearts of both his colleagues and the community he served.

Throughout his distinguished career, Michael demonstrated resilience and an unyielding sense of duty that was the hallmark of his time in service. He often exemplified true leadership and mentorship, providing guidance and inspiration to countless individuals within the department. Whether he was leading critical operations, or ensuring the safety of the community, Michael approached every task with professionalism and integrity. His career was adorned with numerous commendations, showcasing not only his achievements but also the profound respect he earned from his peers. The bonds he formed and nurtured during his time with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department will undoubtedly resonate for years to come.

Michael’s personal life was every bit as rich and meaningful as his professional one. He embraced the roles of husband and father with deep devotion, always placing the joy and well-being of his family at the center of his world. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved wife, Tanya, and his son, Liam. The love Michael and Tanya shared was a constant source of light—steady, warm, and inspiring to all who knew them. As a father, Michael was gentle, patient, and unwavering. He adored Liam and was a steady, supportive presence in the lives of his stepdaughters, Tessa and Abigale. With each of them, he created a home filled with adventure, laughter, and the quiet, contented moments that become life’s most treasured memories.

Michael’s passion for Corvettes was more than a pastime—it was an expression of his zest for life and his appreciation for beauty, craftsmanship, and the thrill of the open road. Whether he was discussing the newest model or simply taking a drive, his eyes would shine with unmistakable excitement and pride.

Those fortunate enough to share in his life were continually inspired by his steadfast loyalty and his sense of humor, a gift that could bring a smile even in the stillest of moments. His presence was a reminder of how love, joy, and authenticity can shape a life well lived—and leave a legacy that endures.

Memories of Michael flood the hearts of those who loved him. From family cruises and vacations to the everyday joy of shared laughter, his spirit was one of force and comfort. Tanya recalls how Michael's smile would light up her heart and remembers the cherished act of holding hands—a gesture that conveyed the depth of their connection and the strength he brought into her life.

Michael leaves behind a loving family that includes his devoted wife Tanya, his son Liam (Hailey), his stepdaughters Tessa and Abigale (Gavin), and his mother Florence Murphy. He is also survived by his siblings, Maureen Murphy, Shawn (Kathy) Murphy, and Shaila (Bruce) Boutell, along with his nieces and nephews, Jeramy (Kari) Boutell, Katie Boutell, Kevin Murphy, and Finn Murphy. Michael is predeceased by his father, John Murphy, whose memory remains a part of the family's heritage.

As the days go by without him, Michael J. Murphy will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, service, and commitment to family and community will be honored and remembered with every smile he inspired and every laugh that echoed in the hearts he touched. May his memory forever serve as a guiding light in the lives of those he leaves behind.
