In Loving Memory of Michael Francis Nelson March 11, 1981 – November 4, 2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Michael Francis Nelson, who left us on November 4, 2024, at the age of 43. Michael was born on March 11, 1981, in Pontiac, Michigan, and was the beloved son of William and Helen Nelson (both deceased). He was also preceded in death by his sister Janet Gullo and niece Cecillia Gullo, whose loss weighed heavily on his heart.
Michael devoted much of his life to the care of his aging parents, embodying love, patience, and compassion. His selflessness in this role was a true reflection of his character-kind, gentle, humble, meek, and always forgiving. His faith was his guiding light, and he was a devout Catholic, deeply rooted in tradition. Even in his struggles, he recognized the saving presence of our Lord. Michael's love for others often focused on their spiritual side, stressing the reception of the Catholic sacraments, the power of Saving Grace, and the importance of keeping one's soul clean.
A lover of nature, Michael found peace and joy in the outdoors. He had a special gift for gardening, and those fortunate enough to have him tend their gardens will continue to enjoy the beauty he brought to their spaces for years to come. He was particularly skilled at propagating hostas, thujas, and evergreens, and had a unique talent for transforming landscapes through the careful clearing of trees and the thoughtful placement of new plants and trees. As the youngest and tallest in a large family, Michael was the gentle giant who always helped family and friends with yard work and tasks requiring heavy lifting. His generosity and willingness to lend a hand will be remembered by all who knew him. Michael also had an incredible talent for sketching lifelike portraits and pictures, many of which were shared with family members who cherished them. Road trips out west, hiking the Ozarks, traveling to northern Michigan, fishing in Canada, playing ping pong, and spending time with his friends and family-especially his brother Joe-were some of his favorite pastimes.
Though contemplative by nature, Michael had a good sense of humor and enjoyed lively discussions on current events and religion. Those who knew him will remember him not only for his gentle demeanor but also for his deep faith and profound love of God. His legacy of kindness, humility, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Michael is survived by his siblings: Mary (Doug) Pruneau, Bill (Lisa) Nelson, Susan (Jeff) Young, Karen (Kevin) Koski, David (Natalie) Nelson, Terrence (Christine) Nelson, and Joseph Nelson, as well as his brother-in-law Tim Gullo and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Mass intentions/offerings are appreciated.
Rest in peace, Michael. Your love, your kindness, and your faith will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon and Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 9016 Buckeye, Cleveland, 44104, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM. We will then process to All Souls Cemetery for his final resting place.
