Michael R. O’Brien, 80, of Lee County, GA, died November 17, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. Entombment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Michael was born on February 27, 1944 in SouthBend, IN to John and Virginia O’Brien. After school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was transferred to Albany, GA. After his enlistment was up, he was employed with Sears as an appliance repairman and technician for forty five years, retiring in 2000.
Michael met Patricia Ethridge O’Brien in 1982 and were reunited in 2004 and they were together for 20 years, until his death. He was a member of The American Legion Post #30, Michael liked watching wrestling, NASCAR and was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cub Fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Michael was proceeded in death by his parents John & Virginia O’Brien and his two brothers Tom & Ed O’Brien, all of Southbend, IN.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ethridge O’Brien his daughter, April (Shawn) Summerlin, all of Lee County, GA, A step son Jamey Norris of Wildwood, Fl , a sister-in-law, Ruth O’Brien of South Bend, IN, a niece and nephew , Jody (Dave) Montana of Detroit, MI and Carmen Hinz of South Bend, IN, a great-nephew, Mitchell Hinz of San Diego, CA and five grandchildren, Eric (Kaitlyn) Summerlin of Lee County, GA, Stephanie Summerlin of Box Springs, GA, Cassie (Devin) Brumbley of Albany, GA, Alivia Summerlin and Lucas Norris both of Lee County, GA. As well as 3 great grandchildren.
Tommy Burrell will give eulogy.
The family will receive friends and family on Thursday at 1:00pm with the service to follow at 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
