On Monday, July 18, 2022, our dad left this earth to reunite with our mom. He was far too young. His health declined quickly, as he was diagnosed this past June with only severe seasonal allergies which was re-evaluated just weeks ago and he was then diagnosed with an aggressive, stage IV cancer. We are thankful he is at peace and that we've been able to be by his side.
Michael L. Ogden, 69, was born on September 3, 1952 at the Hill Air Force Base Hospital in Utah to his biological parents Barbara Blunk and Luther Jones. Nellie Holder Ogden and Edwen Ogden, also family members, adopted him soon after and raised him with unconditional love and to him were simply but lovingly, 'Mom and Dad'. Michael (Mike) attended schools in the Roy, Utah area. He was a proud graduate of Roy High School and treasured the friends and memories made there. Although a bit of a self-proclaimed trouble maker with his high school administration (as he would tell stories with a slightly devilish grin), he was still very proud to be a Royal.
Mike married his high school sweetheart, Deborah Ashton (Debi) on July 7th of 1971 and had three children. CaLyn (Alex) Garcia of South Weber, Utah, Brandon Ogden of Clearfield, Utah and Michelle (Justin) Van Leer of Brunswick, Maine. He was exceptionally proud of his eight grandchildren: Alex J (AJ), Jace, Keldan, Milan, Aubrey, Brandon Jr. (BJ), Cameron and Kynli. Mike and Debi were married for 43 years until she passed in 2014. Together they shared a huge love for their family, South Weber City and the beautiful views of the mountains from their South Weber homes, loving Christmas traditions and much more.
In his early adult years, Mike worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, proudly taking after his dad. He loved everything about trains and rarely missed any visits of historical steam engines coming into the Ogden station. Mike, went on to work as a barber while attending college at Weber State University. He treasured the conversations and relationships he had with many clients/friends. In fact, he was able to give each of his grandkids their first haircuts as Debi gave them treats to keep them distracted and content. He graduated in 1989 with his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University and worked many years as a juvenile probation officer.
Mike loved every dog that came into his life and would never turn a dog needing a home away. He also enjoyed metal detecting, road trips, all things trains, many genres of music but especially the 'oldies', Facebook, sharing high school stories and shopping. Due to his extensive cologne collection, he always smelled great and had a hug that would adjust your neck, followed by a hardy back slap ("Ouch Dad"). He was one to always stay 'on trend', dress 'sharp' and look handsome. Debi especially loved him in blue which accentuated his blue eyes.
Mike was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Debi; his parents, Luther Jones and Barbara Blunk Berkenpas; his loving mom and dad, Nellie Holder Ogden and Edwen E. Ogden and his younger brother, Rick Lund. He is survived by his children, CaLyn, Brandon and Michelle, his six grandsons, two granddaughters, his sister, Lesley Gerard, his loving mother-in-law, Beth De La Cruz and many nieces, nephews and friends.
As per Mike's wishes, a formal service will not be held but instead there will be a small, family celebration of his life at a later date. Mike would love if anyone would like to and is able, to donate to a local animal shelter in his memory. His heart would hope not only the Pearly Gates are opening but also the gate at the end of the Rainbow Bridge!
Thank you to many relatives and special friends that visited him these past few weeks and took time to remind him how loved he was. He told us about each visit and it was obvious how much he appreciated them.
Dad we know you weren't ready. We are so very sorry and we love you so much. We are confident you are overjoyed in the presence of God and the reunion of a lifetime.
