Obituary of Michael S. Palmer
Michael S. Palmer "Mike" age 72, of Ridgeway, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 4, 2021. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 1, 1949, the youngest son of Mark H. and Clara L. Palmer of Marietta, Georgia.
Michael graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1968, entered the US Navy is 1968, received letters of commendation for his outstanding service to his country on USS Newport News, and was honorably discharged in 1974 as Chief Petty Officer. After the service in the Navy, Mike was a mechanic's manager for International Harvester. When he left that company, he started his own business. He was a builder for 35 years. He had a passion for woodworking and was a creative and skilled craftsman. There are so many homes in Atlanta that have his creative touch. He loved traveling, fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding and loved to cook, especially getting creative with BBQ recipes for smoking a brisket. He is remembered as fun loving, having a great sense of humor, and loving practical jokes. He loved the Lord, his family and his country.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Sheila Palmer, brother, Mark A. Palmer and sister, Patricia Palmer Ashe.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 14 years, Terry R. Palmer; five children, Shelley L Palmer-Figueroa and husband Adrian, Kimberly M. Barfield and husband Jason, Leeann N Palmer and wife Stephani, Jessica R. Fitzgerald and James W. Story and wife Courtney, 9 grandchildren and sister Cheryl Palmer Mathis.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heart of Hospice, Columbia, SC and MUSC (Providence) Hospital for their outstanding and compassionate care of Michael.
A memorial service with honor guard, to be announced at a later date, will be held at his home. This obituary will be updated when service details are available.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Tunnel2Towers, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
