Michael N. Payne, MD, of Carmel, IN, passed away on November 18, 2025. He was born on December 15, 1959, in Brazil, IN, to James and Helen Payne. Michael was raised in Terre Haute, IN, and graduated from Terre Haute South High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana State University in 1982, graduating magna cum laude.
Michael married Kimberly Rainier in June 1982 and soon after began medical school in Indianapolis at the Indiana University School of Medicine, graduating in 1986. He completed his residency in anesthesia and pain management and began his medical practice in New Castle, IN. He later joined Northside Anesthesia Services, working at Carmel St. Vincent Hospital, where he spent the remainder of his career dedicated to caring for his patients with exceptional skill and genuine compassion.
Michael is survived by his wife of 43 years; his sons Michael (Krista), Steven (Alexandra), and Matthew Payne; his daughter Natalie Payne; and his grandchildren Steven, Robert, and Alexander Payne.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Payne.
In keeping with Michael’s wishes, no public service will be held at this time. He leaves behind a lifetime of achievements and memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
